Atomic Bombs

Post by Friedrich3 »

In my understanding of the scenario description the drop of the atomic bombs on Japan is an event you can not avoid. This seems very gamey to me. In reality the US had to establish bases within range of the Japanese home islands. I think this should be the case in the game, too.

I agree. Tinian was the base that the Enola Gay bomber took off, with the A bomb.
Tinian/Saipan is out of range of Hiroshima and Nagasaki until the US can achieve the SB 45 advancement (with a +10 range bonus).
In my recent game as the US, it was not possible, even with the maximum number of advancement chits into Stategic Bombing, to achieve the SB 45 advancement, by September 1945.
Therefore I could never even use conventional strategic bombing from Saipan/Tinian/Guam, which historically began in late Summer, 1944.
