Japanese supply in China

Post by Solaristics »

If I understand this correctly, all the supply must come from Chinese ports for Japan in China, because captured main supply sources can't be used. Is this correct?

If so, what is the best way to tell whether you are at your supply limit for units in China? The quickest way I can see (which isn't very quick) is to check every port connected to the main body of your army and see if the aggregate supply stockpile is going up or down (or is stable) from turn to turn.

Correct.

Hit the supply toggle. If you see "!" on the ports it means you have hit the limits from that port that is impacting that front.
Also looking at supply left in the information panel when hovering over a port will tell you the remaining.

It seems that the starting Japanese units in China, in 1941 scenario, are too much for ports to handle. I usually got exclamation marks on all of the ports except Canton and HK, since there's less units down there.
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage.

In post 38 here I delineate where the watershed areas for Japanese supply in China are. Past there, you will take the modifier penalty (was it 1:2 or 2:3 I can't remember). The main point is that unless you can land a coup de grace on Mao (perhaps with paratroopers), you will have to denude the north in order to proceed.

You can with dedication to the campaign and strategic placement. But I can't let China be a cakewalk otherwise what Japanese player wouldn't go for it.
