CVLs

Post by stjeand »

I wanted to do some CVL testing as they appear to be pretty useless.

They should be basically half a CV...so 2 CVLs should be able to match a CV.
When I attack a surface fleet with 3 CVLs I rarely if ever get a hit.
When I attack with one CV I almost always hit a ship and often sink one.

I can change their stats on the CVL to be equal to that of the CV BUT want to change the number of planes to 3...not seeing a way to do this.
Anyone know a way?

CVLs were pretty weak. No where near a CV.

Consider it has 1/2 the A/C of a full CV. When it attacks a naval force that naval force still has its full AA.

So now you have half the bombers coming in basically taking double the damage. That units air power is tiny compared to a land based air or full CV relatively.

Correct...

That is why they should have half the air but the air units are not weaker...there are just half as many planes.

So strength should be based on the number of planes not the ship they are on.

Make sense yes. I really hope there is a separate counter in WP2 to land on an island, say Guadalcanal, carrier based planes when the carrier is damaged.

A real distinction between the carrier and the planes on the carrier. If we could have fighters, dive bombers and torpedo bombers distinction like SSG's Carriers At War, it would be perfect.

Agreed...

CVs planes are far to powerful.

They are basically 100% fighter / dive bomber / torpedo bomber...

Should be a str 3 fighter / 3 dive bomber / 3 torpedo bomber

And land based should probably be 10 str rather than 20.

The land based units being 300 air do NOT match a CV of strength 10 when their air is what 70 planes or so?
Basically 4 CVs = 1 LB air
BUT keep in mind it would take 7 CVs worth of fighters to match 1 LB fighter, same for bombers.

That calculation just seems off.

Saying that...1 land based tac with 1 land based fighter should wipe the floor with 3 CVs...
In the game rarely does that occur.

Land based air being 10 would mean a mountain of air counters on the map. It's too much.

20 strength = 300 planes
1 str = 15 planes.

So a CV with 6 air str = 90 planes.
