Solomons 1942; Cheeks (Allied) vs. AI (Axis)

Post by Cheeks »

I like to call this exercise "out of the frying pan and into the fire" because I really don't know what I'm doing - so if you're thinking that this AAR is somehow going to enlighten you, you'll be sorely disappointed. I figure the best way to learn WPP is just to play it and see what happens.

To clarify, I've read through the .01 manual (meaning skimmed) and I'm mildly confused - probably because I'm extremely dense. I've never played Warplan in any form, so my stupidity will be evident to all. I'm not even sure that I will finish this AAR. I guess I'll see how it goes...

I'm hoping that I've embedded the screen shots correctly [:@]

As you can see, all settings are at historical.

Its July 15, 1942 (Wednesday) and all will end on December 31, 1943 (Friday - I love Fridays).

I've got a bunch of forces to mismanage so I'll get to it.

My strategy will be to approach this based upon what I know (and I know little) the allies did in '42. The campaign Victory Objectives not under my control are:

Buna
Lae
Wewak
Henderson Field
Munda
Empress Augusta Bay
Kavieng
Rabaul
30,54 (Rabaul)
31,53 (Rabaul)

So I'm going to go for Guadalcanal with my invasion fleet (because that was history).

Per the campaign description the Japanese main force (Naval?) doesn't show until mid-June.

Only Port Morsby is in immediate danger. I'll think I will attack with my regiment to see what happens.

So, here's what things look like prior to the Aussie 1st Rgt. attacking the 6th SNLF Rgt.

The odds appear to be 1:2 which would leave me to believe that the 6th will probably kick the crap out of the 30th.

As I expected, the attacking 30th didn't scratch the SNLF at the same time suffered a strength loss & 11% effectiveness.

I'm thinking that I'd probably learn more about the game mechanics if I were to play the Hotseat option.

Notice that I am changing to the Hotseat mode. It really is the best way to learn the game mechanics so this ARR is closed.

I see that Alvaro has mention Warplan 2 in other posts and my wish is that the Pacific be apart of his future plans. To Alvaro I wish to say thanks for offering a conflict that very few other games are willing to cover.
