EIA v1.25.03 Official Update HOTFIX Available

Post by pzgndr »

As discussed in the Hotfix in Progress thread below https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 0&t=398003, there were several back-burner issues and reported bugs with the v1.25.03 Official Update that I wanted to resolve quickly before moving on. Here is what is included in the attachment file (just unzip it into the current game folder):
- area_determine_owner bug - resolved.
- area_nation_exerting_control bug - resolved.
- minor country not being conquered by one month's unbesieged occupation of its capital - resolved.
- surrender conditions display glitch - resolved.
- 0000530: [Game Enhancement] Computer not choosing the optimal path when moving multiple areas – resolved.
- Controlling Major Powers issues - resolved (now, AI Major Powers with forces in range of a minor declared war on or close to Instability are excluded from selection).
- some AI garrisons not taking assault losses - resolved.
- game freeze due to insufficient pursuit losses - resolved.
- outnumbered AI garrisons keep attacking larger besieging forces - resolved (recently added feature deleted).
- combat freeze when some human garrisons take final assault losses - resolved (but combat summary does not capture final round losses).
- Accept Control checkboxes in Diplomatic Reactions screen clearing selections - resolved.
- game messages for Attacker to click DONE to resolve siege inappropriate for AI attacker - resolved (\Data\programtext files updated).
- AI not taking correct losses in some battles – resolved.
- human defender versus AI besieger not seeing final forces eliminated for taking losses and not seeing correct losses in game log – resolved.

UPDATE 10/19/2023 - NOTE: This is a new file that fixes the last two issues added to the Hotfix version notes above.
Today's file also has \Data\docs\Empires in Arms Release Notes updated.

I playtested this some and the new fixes appear to be working fine. I am hopeful that I can close the books on v1.25.03 and finally move forward on v1.26 code development. More on that separately.

I see it. I'll try to update the Hotfix again soon before I move on to v1.26.00.

The bug with AI not taking losses in the Wurzburg battle was a bit complicated. The code runs through unit numbers sequentially, so French II Corps with 3 Cav was picked first for losses. This was not ideal, and as I dug into the code I found that the whether or not a unit must take a cav loss further complicated things. I've got it working well now to take a cav loss if necessary but not to take a cav loss if infantry or militia are available. I'd like to further improve this for the AI taking losses to take minors first before MPs but that will have to wait.

The other issue involved human defenders in an AI siege not being able to take final losses and the game log casualties not working correctly in that case. That took a while to track down and resolve.

Both of these fixes are in the updated Hotfix above. I apologize for not catching these sooner but I do appreciate the bug reports so that they do get resolved before moving on.

Hello all. In lieu of posting a poll to get a sense of community interest, just posting the hotfix here allows me to see how many players are actually playing the game or at least trying to keep up with the updates. As of today, I see only 12 downloads of the hotfix.

I humbly request that if you are playing the v1.25.03 official update with the hotfix, please share a comment or two if you are enjoying the game now. It's helpful for other gamers to see how the game has progressed to being playable and enjoyable. An AAR would be nice.

If you're playing and not enjoying it, please explain why so that maybe we can work in an improvement with v1.26.

And if you're not playing but obviously interested enough to be reading this, what can we do better to get you and others back into Empires in Arms?

Thank you.

I play exclusively solitaire and admittedly not as often as I'd like. What you have done for this game is amazing. The only real quibble I have is the resolution challenges trying to play on a modern wide screen monitor. Having to manually lower resolution every time I play is a bit of a downer but understand that is beyond your ability to address. Please keep up the good work for as long as your interest remains high...

Thanks! Yeah, I scaled up the UI about 40-50% back with v1.24.00 which was a decent compromise. Unfortunately, I cannot make multiple monitor resolutions available as game options, since the toolbar images are all fixed dimensions defined in the code. It's just something we have to live with.

My first time here in these threads and with this game. I just got it today, installed it, the latest update from Matrix, and then the font fix from a friend for windows 10. Just patched the hot fix and am beginning the long process of learning this game. Never played the boar game.

So far the only minor issues is my screen res, making some items smaller and hard to read. I have lowered my screen res from a year ago to 2560 x 1440 for WITE2 and WITP-AE so not going any lower than that. Other than that everything seems fantastic and runs smoothly.

Glad Bill is active and working on the code still.

Hello Mr. Macon,

Just downloaded the 1.25.03/and hotfix update after I saw it on Matrix Games.
Haven't played this version yet, but it would like you to know that I consider EiA a gem and I very_very much appreciate the time and effort that you still put in for the game and for it's players.

I come back to this game on a regular basis, and as a digi-literate I even played some sub-version quite a long time while I was unable to fix an update (_a drive issue on my end).

True to the boardgame experience, a very nice game with a good amount of sound effects, highly enjoyable, played with classic radio on the background.
If I would be able to mention anything, it might be something with the shipbuilding. The building of/strengthening of a fleet has some hard cap that doesn't go well with the gradually increasing of new hulls being laid down. I don't remember quite well but it made it more difficult for France to build up naval power, or for certain port situations to expediently brake a British blockade.

Thank you and Matrix Games for this game.
Have a jolly season and Best Wishes for 2024.

[On a sidenote, a warning on the new Bonaparte movie; from imdb: This movie was made for Apple streaming (release date January 2024) in the first place, but they made a shorter (butchered) version for the cinemas in order to be able to compete for the Oscars, which demands that a movie must have run in the cinemas for a couple of weeks. The original Apple streaming version [is] some 2 hours longer. - I didn't make it past the half hour mark, it's just ..sad (no matter the length - great 'hollow-wood'), maybe read your favorite book of that time again or watch The Duellists (1977).]

Welcome to the game!

EIH has different rules for shipbuilding: ships in ordinary, ships under construction, damaged ships. This game uses the standard EIA rules. Rather than try to implement all of that, perhaps a compromise could be reached where each Major Power has a shipbuilding limit per economic phase in addition to shipbuilding port limits? That might be more doable. If you or others have some suggestions, start a discussion thread and let's see if there's interest for a change.

I solved the problem where EiA code does not handle 4K HD monitors well. It’s not the optimal solution but it works, I used the old out dated screen resolution of 1920x1080 to be able to read what you can’t read on a 4K HD monitor in EiA game. So I can continue to play and learn this game.
