Where to get more campaigns...?

Post by Xikar »

I noticed that the basic game includes the 1805 grand campaign game... but no other options in the drop-down menu it is found in. Where do you get the smaller campaigns- I assume there are probably several to reflect various major conflicts in the napoleonic wars, such as the battle of nations in germany, or the russian invasion, etc....

We will be doing more campaigns AND you will have an editor to make your own campaigns here soon! All of this as soon as I get my head above the water!

I think it would be very useful to get some additions to this game before the campaigns...

things like kingdom of bavaria, sicily, etc...
dominant removal/addition of major powers...

these are needed for new campaigns, particularly if we are to have a 30 year campaign!

There are many things we will need to do before the editor. I was excited about it at first but frankly it just needs to wait until we are over the hump and fixing less important issues.

I think a campaign covering napoleon's ordeal in spain would be awesome, for example. Anyway, I was just curious, thanks for the replies...

Marshall;

Along with the scenario editor; I would like to request a "Host module".  This module would allow
the game host to alter & edit items within a running game (this will allow the host to manually
change & tweek the game to fix any problems that may occur) :

1) Add or remove VPs from a player.
2) Alter a players political status setting.
3) Move a minor country from one player to another or from uncontrolled to controlled by a player
4) Add or remove money & MPs from a player's total (to correct for lost units)
5) Move a corp or fleet from one area to another (for any player & without costing movement points)
6) Change a player's pw.
7) Anything else that someone can think of that would be useful to use to fix hiccups

To prevent misuse of the utility; any changes should be logged for everyone to see; eg:
"$6 added to player xxx by GAMEHOST."
"4 mp added to player xxx by GAMEHOST."
etc.

fixing/resolving Battle files not being properly is the biggest thing I can think of...

I have had two pbem games go down now because others have screwed up their battle file exchange, did not finish the battle, and then were dumb enough to delete all the old battle files and their emails exchanging them

this basically freezes the game and nothing can be down since the old battle files are gone. If a host could somehow rectify this situation it would avoid alot of pbem games ending with a frozen game

Are you talking for PBEM only?

Yah; PbEM (I don't know what real value it would have vs the AI ... if you can't
wipe the floor with the AI in its current state no matter WHAT bugs happen; you
need to practice more).  What I am basically asking for is a "fudge" utility so that if things
go wrong somehow; the host can step in to manually make things right.

This may mean adding/removing vps, $, mp or reassigning a minor country & maybe
other things if anyone can think of them.

One of the things this would do is to make everyone a little less worried that
a new patch will cause a bug.  If it does; the host can probably just fix it
and everyone can carry on without having to push for fixes so much.

EXCELLENT idea, gwheelock!

So, would your idea be to have 8 people, including one host and 7 players? Or, within the existing structure of 7 players? I could see either working, although the latter might be easier to encode.

On the other hand, the former would allow for tournaments with prizes and stuff like that, something that might cause the game to gain a larger following over its expected life. Of course, doing the former could still be "fudged" to be the latter: Simply have the host use two email addresses.
At LAST! The greatest campaign board game of all time is finally available for the PC. Can my old heart stand the strain?

Actually; 7 or 8 shouldn't matter - ALL PbEM games have someone listed as "Email Host" ... whither
that person is also a player is not relevant other than putting in enough transparency (ie. log all changes)
to prevent cheating.

All I am suggesting is to add some additional functionality to the "hosts" screen to allow manual
corrections when problems/bugs (such as your attack on my French fleets in CD2) occur.
