Object reference not set to an instance of an object during AI Turns

Post by Darthrafael »

From one thread asking for support to another...!

I've been running into this issue recently. It occurs during AI turns. Sometimes I can get through it by not alt+tabbing while the AI does their turns meaning I can play on, other times it just crashes regardless, like this one.

Attached below is the exception I got from the error popup. Is the email address in the 'read me first' page still valid for me to send the save file to? If so, what all should I put in the mail? Just a link to this thread?

I'm running Phoenix 2.40.084 Steam, and running my custom modified version of Phoenix Dawn. Map started as a random game, then modified heavily to recreate the European Diplomacy Remastered map with some changes. (Started with maximum water, then cleared it out, then recreated the map using screenshots of the European Diplomacy map)

Sending the file by mail led to a swift resolution of the issue! All is well now!

I got the exact same error message. I'm running version Phoenix 2.40.084, but not on Steam. I run it locally on my hard drive using Windows 11. So what was the fix?

Thanks in advance.

If you haven't yet sent a mail to the address mentioned prior, I recommend you do so.

It's not something I could fix on my end, rather I was sent something which fixed the issue for me, so you'll have to send a mail and get it as well. I've been told that it'll be in a future patch for ATG.

This is a bug that will be fixed in the next patch, which should be fairly soon, sometime next week.

One change that people will notice is that I made "Stone Age" allowable only if you choose "1 Town Start". The reason has to do with the fact that for a normal start, the initial garrison is composed of subformations that you cannot build as they have techs not available at the start of "Stone Age". Thus, it is inconsistent. On the other hand "1 Town Start" starts the game with just the SHQ.

Well, I sent in my error message, and overnight I received a link to a file in Dropbox. Thanks for the quick response. I downloaded the file and opened it. I think you said Matrix is still working on the installer, which is delaying the new patch. I didn't do a good job of installing or transferring the files. I just copied the two folders overwriting the existing folders, which was a mistake. My son figured out from the new error message I got (the program couldn't find an image) that the contents of the folders were to be added to the existing folders--not all the pervious files in the existing folders were to be replaced. Once the deleted files were restored, it worked fine. All's well that ends well--thanks for the help. :)
