Axis and Allies Via 1938 mod
This is a scenario thought up by Bombur (GJ BTW) and is an experimental game with lots of house rules (see below).
I'm currently playing CPdeyoung in this and having a real blast. I've cut my teeth in the game and I think I'll offer a challenge to even good players. Anyone or ones interested in a game? 2-5 seems like the max.
This would be straight Axis and allies--no is he with me or is he not. Teams will require good team play, or if just two, a bit of work (fun times though) to do your rounds.
I've been reading the AAR's of games I'm not even in and have been really captured by how some players breath life into their turn on the AAR.
I'm a video editor and Graphic Designer who has had a bunch of games end and the rest are slow rolling, so I'd like to do a well done AAR with video clips from war footage and some GD added in. I'd like this to be more about forging a story as we try to win, rather than just a competition. If you write in the AAR, I'll do the rest. Maybe I'd need to open a Free Word Press to post it on... not sure if you can upload video here...
To me the story and the little events and actions that pile up to make the outcome are as fun as the battles and striving for victory. Been doing loads of reading again on WW2 and would like to document and create/ be a part of an alt / semi historic WW2 history. Things seems slow these days, so not sure if the players are there, but if anyone is interested, it should be good times forging a WW2 tale.
Here are the house rules, if interested.
The following restrictions would be applied to each country
1-Germany
-Must start a war before June 1940 or the Allies win the game
-Can make alliances only with Japan or Italy
2-Italy
-Can make alliances with Germany or Japan
3-Japan
-Cannot make peace with China
-Can make alliances with Germany or Italy
4-GB and France
-Can make alliances with China, USA or USSR (see USSR restrictions)
-Can make alliance with China only if at war with Japan
-Can make alliances with USSR only if USSR was attacked by Germany country AND they are already at war with the Germans (thus allowing Germany to go for a USSR first strategy)
-Cannot start a war against Japan, Italy or Germany
5-USSR
-Can make alliances with China, France, GB, USA
-Can make alliances only if at war against one of the Axis powers
-Can DOW Germany or Italy in 1943 and can DOW Japan only in 1944
6-USA
-Once it wakes up from isolation, can make alliances with any allied country that is at war with one or more Axis countries
-Can DOW any Axis country that is at war with an allied country
-Can play the break neutrality card only after another war, that is not the Sino-Jpanese one, starts.
7-China
-Cannot DOW any country
-Can make alliance with any allied country at war with Japan
Other restrictions
If a war is started, peace cannot be made until the game ends.
We are going to use the last version (v223s)

I like the look of the rules put me down for a slot. The Soviet Union is a side I have not played in a while.
Are we like late Rome, infatuated with past glories, ruled by a complacent, greedy elite, and hopelessly powerless to respond to changing conditions?

Okay, awesome. You are one of the AAR's that I enjoy reading. If no one else plays and it ends up 1V1, is that a possible option? Hopefully more are interested. My weakness is strategic and my strength seems to be operational and tactical, so your choice works well, as that was a historical if I end up being the baddies... whether it's some or all--if no one else joins. I plan on designing "posters" for each year that reflect the current situation of the war. I'll start crafting it now. Question, can you upload vids to this forum? And how do you post jpgs and such? My main goal is to tell a story... as I try to win

Building the website because video can't be posted here. http://advancedtacticsworldatwar.weebly.com/ will be the secondary link to this forum's AAR. Have a load of work to do on the site, but starting with simple placeholders till I can get to work. I'm figuring I'll do a monthly video round up on the events based on the AAR's backed by RL footage. I'll post links in the AAR's posted on this forum if anyone is interested to follow along. Ultimately, I'll compile all the monthly video's into one long 'historical documentary' of this alternate WW2 history.
Hopefully we can get some more players. What would you think as a start time of the game?

Hey, Tom here ( http://advancedtacticsworldatwar.weebly.com/ ) is the type of video documenting I'm shooting for. You could grab clips if there are ones you ( or any others playing ) like as we go and I can put them in. This is a rough, but generally the mode I envision. Voice over would work best, but my strong New Yawker accent wouldn't fly well in a WW2 doc. Maybe if we get other players they, or you, would be interested. Maybe I'm over engineering this thing, but my German genes won't have it any other way.

Is that your voice on the video clip most impressive [:)] I guess if you are going to do video commentary then Axis and Allied commentaries would be fun, trouble is the time to script read and edit the finished product.

Hahah, no sir. I wished it were my voice... I sound like a low-class New Yawker. I nabbed that audio from a famous speech in 1938 of Governor Moore on National Defense. I know some good voice actors, but I doubt they could do it... but maybe. I'll give them a shout out. The script would simply be taking AAR's and transposing them to the video... which I can bang out. My job responsibilities have me writing and editing 1k plus words a day anyway. So writing and editing isn't too much an effort. If we get more players... which I'm doubting at this point... it would be far easier. That video was like 2 hours or so, soup to nuts. Maybe a mix of audio and written exposition would be better? I could also go all written. The work of 1-2 rounds a week would become my hobby time... Also, I like to research and the process does learn me a bit about history. The Moore speech was new to me up until this video. Given your standing and exp in this mod I'm likely to lose. But in this doc style, little things become fun. Generals and battles develop a character that can shine bright, despite a loss-- look how much we comb over the loser of WW2. I'm a story addict and that's my true draw to the game.

Hey thanks Ned!! I was getting worried that no one wanted to play. I Guess at this point it's Tom as the Soviets, you as U.S., and I'll take whatever. I really don't care. But it would seem at this point I'm someone on the Axis side. I wouldn't blanch at Germany, so I guess I'm Germany and Italy. But again, I play whatever. I hope to get an experienced player on Axis to help with my strategic shortfalls... but if not, could you two take more nations than just U.S. and Soviets? I could play Axis in total... not sure if there are enough guys interested.

I have messaged Larry he will probably take the Japanese so with a UK/France and Chinese player we are good to go.

Awesome, thanks sir. Given that this will be about sides winning and not individual nations, maybe Ned can run China? I think the key for this one is a good time. And if the victory conditions are about teams, rather than individuals, and story is a primary goal, U.S and China done by one player shouldn't be a problem. But you guys are far more knowledgeable in this mod... so, what's your thoughts? and Ned are you interested in China as well?

I would run this past Larry first he is not great fan of a US China combination under one player, it can make life very hard for Japan, especially if the USA/China player is a player of Ned's calibre.

Finding two more players will be tough... Soviets / China maybe? Also, given these rules, it puts a load of restrictions as far as an early attack... but I yield to the team. Thanks again.
RE: Axis and Allies Via 1938 mod
Would be willing to play Japan as long as the USA player (if also playing China) cannot declare war on Japan unless Japan attacks the USA or one of it's other allies (not China obviously). (An USA Ally declaring war on Japan does not free the USA to declare war on Japan IF Japan did not first attack that ally.)
As already said I am not a fan of China and USA being played by same person. I think it would be more realistic if USSR was not allowed to declare war on Japan until 1944 but only if Japan is already at war with the USA.

The above house rules made by Bombur covers Russia not being able to DOW till 44 and GB / France can't DOW unless attacked. When does the U.S. usually awake?
So basically, it comes down to when can the U.S. break neutrality? As it would be a mono e mono till 44 unless Japan chooses otherwise... I believe this is how I'm reading the house rules. What do you think Larry?

I would be ok with the USSR not attacking Japan until 1944. Just reading the house rules I can't attack Japan anyway until 1944 assuming I have been attacked by a Axis power.
