Missing scenarios for AJE?

Post by ncc1701e »

What are the missing scenario according to you?
Nikel wrote: Fri Sep 02, 2022 9:01 am I did not know you also played Ageod games :)

The pity of this series is that the team that developed it ended burned and did not complete what was thought in the beginning.

Scenarios in game or two of the fall of the Roman Empire are sadly missing, among many other interesting ones.

Ageod forum is now an empty hall, for example this request for a PBEM game did not even get an answer.

The scenarios themselves, events, leaders, models, units, texts... all was created in excel files.

The databases of all their games were made public, here is the ftp link if you want to take a look:

A tedious work because there is a lot of info and details in every scenario. Needless to say you have to be very motivated, you have to know how the engine works (events, etc) and you have to know history.

And sorry for messing in your AAR thread

Of course the scenarios are based in history.

But the best reference, as Philippe Thibaut was and is a boardgamer, is in a boardgame, Imperium Romanum, a game created in its day by Al nofi, now in version III, the scenario list is the following:

The most evident missing scenarios are, the civil war Octavian vs Anthony and the mass of the long decline of the Roman Empire, specially the invasion of the Huns.

So you put all the data inside Excel files and it is working fine? I can’t believe it.

There must be some graphics to do somewhere. Are you good on this topic?

And of course we need to search the historical documentation to build an OOB. I have few books but it will depend on the scenario chosen.

You may think it is easy because you have not started to do it ;)

Really, it is a lot of work. But it is not only that, you must know how the engine works to create the events, that is the most difficult part IMHO.

If the team ended burned it was for some reason. Too much work for too few benefit.

Just my guess, I was only part of the team in the very beginning, translating, a few testing and some ideas.

Then real life hit and I had to leave. So I was not part of it when it ended, and do not know the details of why no more scenarios were created and sold as DLC or whatever.

Yes, you need also the graphic part, for the events you may use what is already done because as you see they are rather generic.

Then comes the leaders and the units. Depending on the scenario it may be a problem. I am not a graphic pro, cannot do that  The graphics of the game are very good indeed, specially the units.

A forum member Hobbes, started creating a Aurelian scenario, but did not finish it. If you are really interested perhaps you may try to finish that one?

I am sure this is a lot of work. And honestly I don't have the time right now for this.
