And here we have the full cycle... I remember very well. I had bought Pax Romana when it was released: 2003 or 2004? If I am not mistaken the guys who made it later became AGEOD. The game was er... rather mediocre and full of bugs. I was rather angry, and not without a reason.

Now the same guys, with a lot of more experience (first class games behind their back) and an evident love, passion for history, go back to the very beginnings and incredibly surpass that first Pax Romana game. I have even noticed that they have used things from the PR game (in AJE that is). Sounds, icons, etc.

A must have if you love Roman history! And be sure of this: made by guys who ACTUALLY know history [&o]

If anything, I want the expansion pack now: Punic Wars, and I would love to see the not so famous -but perhaps much harder and dangerous- struggle for the supremacy of the Italian Peninsule: Samnites, Latins, Etruscans and then the Greeks of Magna Grecia! I'm lying! I wanted it yesterday!

Hell, I would love to start a game with Rome only covering some hills (not even the seven) [:D]

What I said, what a formidable full cycle!

Going back a bit further there was a boardgame called Imperium Romanum 2 by West End Games. At last a computer game that will do what it did for board games to the Ancient era. A very good list of scenarios in that which could be applied to this game. Some would be unbalanced but who said history was fair? I will be buying any scenario expansion packs for sure.

This is on my list. But I'm still hoping from one that goes from Augustus to Romulus Augustulus.

So you prefer the fights during the Empire (until the fall of Rome, I assume) [:)]

Me it's the other way around. I prefer the struggles during the Republic (the border would be somewhere between the Gracchi brothers and Marius).

If I well understood they will try to please everyone as they will cover -from what they said- the whole Roman history. Even some (the last I guess) Samnite Wars.

Still, I would even prefer the fight vs the other Italian powers, when Rome was a small, then a medium town. In fact we can objectively say that was the really hardest, epic part of their history. Because once Rome dominated the Peninsule they had at their disposal huge resources: they became a "world" power.

But before that point they could very well have disappeared: the Etruscans, Samnites could have prevailed after all [:)]

Maybe you would like to know that the first expansion planned will be named Birth of Rome. Samnites, Pyrrhus, First Punic War,...[;)]

I'm on the fence because I'm not sure DLC and expansions will be release through Matrix/Slitherine. I'm sure they will work hard on it though.

Well, yes:)

Though a span from the city state to the fall of the WRE would be acceptable. :)

What can I say, Annals of Rome spoiled me.
