This document is operational report 8th Battalion, 4th Artillery in Vietnam, 1968. Inside this report, GR-8 is described as one of the way to track enemy artillery and mortar.

US army later upgraderd GR-8 to AN/TNS-10, better acoustic tracking set. R&D of AN/TNS-10 was finished in 1978, I'm not sure about US army but Austrailian and Greek army used AN/TNS-10. I will discuss this later.

Those acoustic method would be a good reference for the existence of CB mission during early cold war. But of course, their accuracy was not that great, too many factors can influence on the results. So CB mission during early cold war (before CB radar) should have huge error. I think early CB radar would have some errors too.
