installation problem

I installed the game on two computers as I always do (I never play both at the same time since they are in different locations). The first time intallation of the game and patch went fine as usual, but when I came to install the patch on the second computer, problems arose. I clicked on the box that opens at the start that sends one to the Slitherine site, where it says "click here" for the PC. But instead of downloading the patch, this opened a google chrome (which I never use) window that said I had to install a HD video program to continue.

After horsing around with this for a while, I installed the patch by going to the Slitherine site with Firefox and finding what appeared to be the same page, from where the patch installed in the normal manner.

So it is my impression that the first Slitherine window that apparently was opened by Google chrome was either a fake page from a virus, or the page thought that Google Chrome was my default browser (it is not) and Google wants to install a bunch of video browsers on my system that I don't want.

It sounds like there might be a virus on your machine. It's the opening of an unusual app that would make me think that - even if the site had been hacked it would have opened in your usual browser.

You could try running a full virus scan, or possibly use a second (online perhaps) scanner in case something was missed. Malawarebytes can also be useful in these situations.
