I second this. I felt like this series might die due to 4k support. Over the next few years that will become the standard so it nice to see a proactive move to make higher resolutions function better with the current games. My hats off to you and the dev team of Operational Art of War as well.

help!

i'm playing at recommended resolution for my monitor(s)---3840 x 2160 (150 custom scaling) and i can barely read the counters at 2D zoom. the opening window
is about 3x4 inches. can't read the words on the boxes. i'm afraid to try 7680 x 4320

i could play the old version just fine. no problem with other games like command, cold water, FOG2, GG WITE_W_P XCOM2 TW Warhammer etc etc

any thoughts. i go to 1920 x 1080 and resolution is blurry.

i have an i7 7700k 4.2ghz with an Nvidia 8 gb video and 32gb ram.

For display scaling issues, you might try experimenting with this:

here you go

i'd need a report to fully understand your settings but from what's shown, the game works at a standard display size, anything higher and it looks like it can't handle the width which doesn't or wont surprise many, as standards were made years ago, and these 4k ones are more recent so less likely to fully work when in windows, without some form of tweaks, like shown above etc.

but can't say it will be a hard to fix issue, you will just need to play around with it until it looks the best for your res etc

How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:

1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.

once the report has been made, just attach it to your post with first adding the file to a zip, which is then permitted to attach to the forum

Code: Select all

https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/how-to/pc-peripheral/how-connect-4k-screen-pc-3634369/

Code: Select all

https://thenextweb.com/gadgets/2017/10/01/use-4k-tv-pc-monitor/

Code: Select all

https://www.tekrevue.com/tip/windows-10-display-scaling/

but for me the problems is this one,

Code: Select all

https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/how-to-adjust-high-dpi-scaling-in-windows-10/

but it puts the ball firmly back into your court as it's you which needs to learn and read it, then sit and alter it until the game looks correct, as hardware is like this, as one setting for one user on a given screen size and res won't maybe won't on another, and as nobody has an office with all the different sizes and widths and res, it's hard to fully be 100% sure which one will work the best,.

but i can say for sure 99.9% that one will work, as it's windows in the end which does the alteration and the game just sits there and does what it did before, so a old monitor works by plugging it in, where as a more modern one, can take a bit longer to setup, but once done, it's done for ever

I'm on a Surface Pro 4 and had the same issue as DOX44. I tried the compatibility setting change to "Override high DPI scaling" as BERTO suggested, which didn't seem to work. However, when i set the compatibility override to "SYSTEM" instead of "APPLICATION" as in the picture above, the display started working perfectly with correctly sized windows and text. YMMV.

thanks for all posts, i can change screen etc to get it somewhat usable but everything else is wonky and CSME is grainy. Haven't found the 'goldilocks zone' yet. For now i'll keep everything else normal. big campaign going in FOG2 and like i said...everything
else works fine.

However, when i set the compatibility override to "SYSTEM" instead of "APPLICATION" as in the picture above, the display started working perfectly with correctly sized windows and text.

tried that. i can actually read "play game" and "play scenario" selection screens. they are regular size. 2D zoom map is still small. the info box is the size of large desktop icon. unusable. the toolbar on large is also too small and i turn it off.

By "experimenting with this", I meant experimenting with the "Override high DPI scaling ..." options. I didn't mean to suggest that the Application option, the one highlighted [initially; image since edited], is the best one; not facing this issue myself, I don't know.

Anyway, glad your experiments stumbled on to a fix. [:'(]

i've booted CSME over 100 times today.

i've got it working save for one issue. sometimes the scenario selection window comes up very small and sometimes its
normal size. i just reboot until its normal...other than that its good and other programs are okay.

i defaulted nvidia. i scaled 175% and used compatability tab "overide high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by:

System---does not work with "application" on my computer as nothing changes.

its working and its really wonderful.

Thanks all!
