Bolschewisten! Certainly Soviets, because of the AK47; if they were Korea War commies like NK or PRC units... they'd have SKS or even the old M1891 Mosin-Nagat.

Nailed it, Klink!

I've started compiling Soviet organizations for the Cold War game. Something I can do at work on my lunch, since I can't play the games.

Well... what to say...I've already spent more hours preparing for Tutorial '50 (TOAW IV) and recently for Tutorial '50 (CSME) than actually playing(!!!) the games... I dug myself into the dev blogs and manuals.. alas, perhaps I am missing something. Where/how to modify the weapons/units in CSME or the other CS games?

I just revamped the whole Mods Table of Contents opening post, what you want to have a look is this developer diary. It is written for JTCS, but the rules apply to CSME as well.

Unit IDs are six digit now, and more importantly; the game now reads unecrypted unit data files by default unless in PBEM or LAN play mode. Good luck!

ie. no need for the -X parameter for the game engine. Just make the changes (under a new JSGME mod), and fire her up!

You can modify the weapons/units in CSME, I just didn't describe how to do that in the manual.

You can edit the ...OOBs/platoon##.oob files to edit or add new units. Each ## relating to a specific country.

You can edit the ...data/weapon.pdt file to edit or add new weapon values.

These edits will only work on your system.

You can modify the weapons/units in CSME, I just didn't describe how to do that in the manual.

You can edit the ...data/weapon.pdt file to edit or add new weapon values.

These edits will only work on your system.

I guess Petri was reading the post and... aye, found the relevant post - Development Thread #07 - Platoon##.oob files explained - Alas, your patience with me and responsiveness is much appreciated, Jason.

I am going to work through the relevant dev posts from Berto then... no more lunch-munchies breaks for me for the next couple of days then...

Just to be sure: for a new scenario, all you need is a map, either an existing one or new via map editor, then the org file, via org editor, and then putting those together into a scenario via scenario editor. But you’re adding completely new units to unit data sets too, is that the plan?

For the Tutorial '50 the standard .OOB platoon/weapons file will suffice. However, was just curious how to 'adjust' them a tad.

All fine. Lots of reading and trying out to do, but I am comfy I can present something by the end of the week. After all, it's the Oberst :D

All good Herr Oberst, just wanted to ask as other games obviously have different unit databases and approaches to scenario design [:)]

You know the Soviets threatened to intervene in 1973 and even put some Airborne units on alert. Some soviet units might allow for some interesting "What if's" in the Genefia Hills and Suez City. Just saying [:D]

I did a few of these "What ifs" for SPMBT a few years ago.
