DLC for Campaign Series Middle East & Vietnam Games

Post by Hoplite1963 »

Now that the release date for Campaign Series Vietnam (CSVN) has been put back to Q1 2020 I wonder perhaps if it would be good to look again at the upcoming DLC add on’s both for it and the Middle East (CSME) game. As I understand it the first of these will be an Iran Iraq war (IIW) DLC for CSME extending CSME’s time period to 1988 and adding in the Iranians and perhaps chemical weapons? From elsewhere in this forum its clear that quite a lot of work has already been done on OOB’s for this.

After that once CSVN is out at some point we will get a Korean War (KW) DLC for this, based on, but also expanding the (already extensive) Korean War Mod done by “Warhorse”.

If you take the nations that we already have in CSME and those that we know we will get with CSVN as both games will have OOB’s going back to 1948. quite a lot of the work needed for the KW DLC will already have been done. For the UN side we will have the US, the UK, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and France as well as the PRC for the communists. For nations fielding a brigade or more this means that it only remains to add North Korea, Canada and Turkey.

Smaller NATO contingents such as Belgium the Netherlands and Greece could perhaps wait to be added until after the CS Cold War game (CSCW) comes out as an update. Unless of course the KW DLC was going to come out after CSCW, which would also mean that in terms of building major nations from scratch you might only have to do North Korea.

Indeed apart from the UK so many of the major combatants that will be in the KW DLC will ship with CSVN that I do wonder how feasible it will be to start using CSVN to design scenarios for the KW DLC ? If this is so when you come to do the Korea DLC you might be able to save yourself some work by (where mutually agreeable) incorporating (after tweaking and updates) some of the user created scenarios done for CSVN into the commercial release KW DLC ?

Perhaps if the KW DLC is going to wait until after the release of CSCW then the UK (without any order of battle changes, as we have “Warhorse”s work to refer to as reference material) could be added to the Vietnam game to facilitate the process of getting scenario’s for the KW DLC done in advance by the community ?

My own preference here would be for you to get the Iran Iraq war DLC out the door first, say in between CSVN and EFIII and leave the KW DLC until after CSCW so as to minimise the amount of new ground you would have to break on the OOB’s to do a fully comprehensive package.

As an FYI.

I have a good head start on the Iranian Order of Battles. Trying to find good, accurate details is a challenge.

As of late, the focus has been on Vietnam and scenario creation (mapping included, which is the most time consuming of all the processes), but will return to the Iranians once Vietnam is released. Fortunately, the maps for the Iran/Iraq war are generally easier to produce as the terrain is not nearly as complicated.
