game engine update

Post by jc4751 »

Have you guys ever considered creating a new graphics layer for this? At some point, the ability to run older programs on Windows (without messing with a VM) is going to go away. There are a number of newer drawing libraries that are available for games. I also believe that the 2d/3d view is not true 3d rendering, but is simply flipping the tile and icon set from a top down to an isometric view, so it would be easy to adapt. I'm not sure what is accessible in terms of the actual game engine logic, but if you could either modify that layer to work with a newer game engine, or could port the game logic to another project, it would give this series a lot more legs down the road.

(if it is running a new graphics layer, I'll slink away after apologizing)

Yes, it's been on the plans for some time, needed to have first the Modern Wars game ("rules") engine completed, then added the Lua based CS Event Engine with some 800 function calls. So, logically, graphics engine's turn will come. No date on that yet though.

Very cool, and glad to hear it. Computer wargaming is always a double-edged sword with the advanced of technology and changes to operating systems.

Looking forward to the Modern Wars Series (and wouldn't mind working on scenario design if you're looking for some help)! For personal reasons I don't play Vietnam games but will buy about anything else. And BTW Personally, I'm willing to pay for an upgrade. Maybe something like a Campaign: ME 2nd edition with full price for new purchases and 1/2 price offer, for a limited time, for previous owners? What's what Command did and I thought it was a very fair deal!

I was Navy, but Assigned TAD to the 24th MAU Hq in Beirut. By far the finest period of my service!

Unfortunately we will have to refuse you paying for the update for Middle East 3.0 [:D]

Golan scenarios were by you, weren't they? Edit Golan 1985 scenarios, that is. Love them.

Let us partner to have the Event Engine lua code added to them for 3.0 if I recalled this correctly. Jason will be busy as h*ll providing Lua files for his own scenarios, I will have more time, as I just have four scenarios of my own design there.

If good PM me so let us have a look at this?
