WW2 Suitability

Is there anything about this game engine that would make it unsuitable for modelling WW2 battles?

Not at all, that’s the plan, starting with East Front III 1939-1941 in the winter

So if I understand correctly, East Front III will NOT be an upgrade/DLC to the JTCS game, but a completely new game release and/or a DLC for this? The latter seems a bit odd so I'm probably off.

Hello marcdhanna

JTCS (John Tiller's Campaign Series, released in 2007) is no longer receiving UPDATEs. We can provide data fixes like enrypting a data file if severe errors found, but that's about it.

There will be a new set of games to cover WW2: CS East Front III, CS West Front II, and CS Pacific Front.

For the modern era, in addition to CS Middle East, CS Vietnam is work-in-progress for a release this year, and there is CS Cold War in the pipeline for the future.

CS East Front III core game will cover years 1939-1941. Years 1942-1943 and 1944-1945 will be provided as DLCs. Something like this or West Front II and Pacific Front as well.

Hope this explains our roadmap for new games. We're not a big team, so need to eat the elephant one spoonful at time.

JTCS and the new Campaign Series are no longer compatible, it's been pretty much a complete overhaul under the hood. Unit database uses a new syntax that allows for more detailed units, graphic files are reorganised, and the game engine, with Adaptive AI and CS Event Engine a world apart, too.

What should remain compatible are the map files, lacking new terrain types of course, but otherwise available for scenario conversion. Alan Arvold for instance converted all Divided Ground scenarios to Middle East with this method, first taking the map file, looking that over, then using the Middle East Order of Battles to build the historic organisations, and finally using Scenario Editor to place everything on map. The result has been magnificent, imho.

Something like that can be done with old JTCS scenarios by community, while the new games will come with completely new scenarios. We will continue to ship each game with a full set of editors.

Crossroads: thanks for the quick and detailed answer...I had just purchased the JTCS series a couple of weeks ago before I bought Middle East CS (since it went on sale).

I'll look forward to Vietnam and EF-III coming out this year then!

Any thoughts way way way down the road on "Campaign Series American Civil War" or Perhaps "Campaign Series World War I"??[X(]

Under JTCS the engine works pretty well with the World War I mod so perhaps going back 60 or so years to the USA would be doable given the time and inclination under the new engine.

Just thinking out load and maybe a little bit hoping.

Cheers![:)]

I'll be buying to support you guys,
Could you make a tutorial like the Steel Divisions 44 Normandy?

I know how to play but I played the Steel division and it was the best tutorial ever.

Steel Divisions 44 Normandy
Did you mean one of many good YT tutorials by players or was there one 'shipped' or part of the core game on Steam?
