ME unit viewer

Post by SIPRES »

Hello,

Just download ME and try browsing new units using Unit viewer provided in the "tools" folder.
So far I cant see ME in the game select droplist (only WF,EF,RS are available)

Not a big issue but Unitviewer is really usefull, wrong version?

Rgds

Latest version here
https://sites.google.com/site/jtcsunitviewer/
- direct download of actual version: http://arkady.cz/storage/cs_unitviewer_21141349.zip

as I created version for CS:ME without the game, installation paths check in registry is probably wrong, just edit settings.txt fiel within utilityx folder and put full path to Middle East installation directory, content of the file should look like
East Front=
West Front=
Rising Sun=
Middle East=E:\Matrix Games\John Tiller's Campaign Series\Middle East\

The unit viewer is accessed from within the game (F3, I believe)

Here's the deal:

[*] If you launch the Unit Viewer from in-game with F3, it fires up the one from the game /tools folder
[*] If you launch the Unit Viewer from a desktop shortcut, it reads the settings.txt, and expects to find it.

As Arkady put it, with WF EF RS there's the registry entry the tool can use, but we did not know what the registry entry was until M/S created the official package.

Given the stellar maintenance record Arkady's kept with his Unit Viewer, there's always the next and improved version to look for! [:)]

I changed the settings.txt.

Nothing happens when I hit F3 in game.

As i understand it you only change the settings text if you want to use it outside the game, won't work in game right now if you do. couldn't you copy it and have 2, change the settings text for use for the one to use outside the game and leave the other alone for in game, would that work.

If you guys downloaded the latest Unit Viewer from Arkadys site, it changed the exe name. In CS:ME 1.00, the code expects to find a JTCS_UnitViewer.exe in the tools sub folder.

Unit Viewer's latest version is CS_UnitViewer.exe, and we'll modify the game code to use that as of CS:ME 1.01.

Until that, either use the latest version from another location and update the settings.txt, or rename it to use the old JTCS_ prefix and drop it into game's tools/JTCS_UnitViewer folder.
