Changing game settings in Save files

Post by ineffable »

Game settings such as the Battle timer and Battle end conditions can be changed in the save file using a hex editor which is basically Notepad for hexadecimal code.

In the image below a save file is shown at top and its explanation below. The Battle timer byte address (C6) is highlighted in blue. A value of 09 in this byte is a 15 minute battle, a value of 12 is 20 minutes. A value of 01 is a 1-2 minute battle. etc

The start of the US/GE game settings (98) is highlighted in red. The 02 value seen is a US difficulty setting = Regular. Not too hard to see the pattern here. Save files cant be edited and run immediately with the game on the Command screen. Back out to the Main screen, hex edit, then re-enter the game.
