Can't connect to opponent in lobby
RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
I had issues with connection on wed nite. e mailed steve about them. he was going to check with the server.....
RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
Well, Saturday and getting the same problem. My friend here logs in successfully, but my machine appears not to do so fully. Symptoms as follows:
After clicking 'ok' in the Lobby Login dialog (Name pwd serial already populated correctly), I get 'connecting the Lobby System', then ' Gateway to Caen Multiplayer Lobby', click 'ok', and now I can see members in the lobby users section, but already I get a dialog titled 'Close Combat Error', reading 'Get forum root failed. Unknown error.' and a box 'ok' to click. I click 'ok'.
Now I can receive chat messages, but it is very noticeable that the Matchmaking Forum window is failing to populate. When I click 'join' it says 'connecting to opponent', and then I get 'Close Combat Error' 'Connect to opponent failed. Unknown error'. I click 'OK'.
The dialog titled 'Close Combat Error', reading 'Get forum root failed. Unknown error.' reappears and a box 'ok' to click. I click 'ok'.
When I try hosting or connecting to Barnaby (who is in the same room in the same house with me we get as far as seeing the message saying that he is asking me to join him (or vice versa), but when the other one of us accepts, we both get stuck in a 'connecting to opponent' dialog without it ever connecting.
It seems to me that this may have something to do with the fact that the forum fails to populate. Presumably some part of the connection is getting blocked? Yet I've looked into my router settings and it doesn't appear to be blocking any ports. I can't see why it wouldn't be working.
Any suggestions gratefully received. It is a recent download (since the New Year 2016) direct from Matrix games. So I presume it should be the latest version.
Thanks.
Ian

LOL....don't ever presume your getting the latest version. there is a patch out. that may be your problem bro. register your game with matrix and get the patch.
steve from matrix usually will eventually read your post and can help if the patch doesn't get you going.
hope this helps.
BTW where are you located?

RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
I'm in the UK. I'll look for the patch. Thanks
RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
It may be relevant that I'm trying to play the game on a mac through wine. But the odd thing is that it runs fine single player, and equally that my friend Barnaby is also successfully running on a mac and doesn't get the same error messages I'm getting. And the forum loads in the lobby, whereas in mine clearly it is trying to load but failing.
RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
dump the game ...reload it and load the ver 1.02 patch. and see what happens. make sure ur buddy have the same version too

RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
Right, hotfix downloaded and applied to both computers and we appear to have a connection!
Thank you very much for the advice, Stiener. Amazed that Matrix haven't put the patched version into the standard download a full 18 months after it was issued.
Thanks once again.

good hunting bro!

RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
Successfully played a full game, so looks like that was a success and that running it on wine in Mac is not a problem. Thanks again for your encouragement. I might not have persevered otherwise!
Will see whether we can make an operation work tomorrow.
Very pleased to have CC working again. (Used to play it years ago.)

RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
That's great news idc.
I think you owe Steiner and me a battle online. In which battle you let us win on purpose off course, but in a way it's not too obvious.
It just helps my ego
thanks

RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
Please make sure both you and your opponent have the latest update to the game:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3796331
If you both have the latest version please let me know exactly what error you get when you perform the following steps:
1) Go to the multi-player
2) Click your opponent's name in the lobby users list.
3) Click the HOST button.
Thanks!

Version 1.02.My friend can not see me or read my messages. And when I join My Friend, it freezes during the connection phase.

RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
Thanks for the information. I will check with Slitherine to see if there are any issues with the back end of the lobby system. Based on the report it sounds like your friend is either running an old version (pre 1.02) or he is not receiving the list of connected users when he connects.
Please ask your friend to make sure he has allowed Close Combat Gateway to Caen to make connections through his Windows firewall. If the game is being blocked from making outside connections it would have issues like this.

EDIT: And one last thing -- Please send me your friend's lobby user name and approximate date/time that your friend ran into this error so we can check the lobby system logs. Thanks!

RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
Here is the latest complaint on the same problem as it is described in hmh25205040 complaint above. The same problem, I cannot see my opponent in the lobby when his lobby shows he is connected. We have played this game for the last 3 years without too may connection difficulties. Usually I load up first, then my opponent logs in afterwards, and I host and we connect with each other. Not tonight! We even tried reversing the process where my opponent logged into the lobby first and I followed. This time I could see him. I tried to host and we didn't connect. The we restarted with my opponent in the lobby first and me following. He tried to host again and we could not connect.
The last time we successfully connected to play was just last week (10-6-20). So, there is no compatibility issue with us. Based on our experience tonight and the complaint by the player hmh25205040 (see above), the Lobby process appears to have an occasional glitch.

RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
Knights -- please me/email me both your lobby user names and the date / approximate time you were trying to connect to each other so we can look at the lobby logs.
If you get into this situation again, please have the second person to join the lobby log out and log back in again a few times, and each time they log back in check if the problem is resolved. I am trying to troubleshoot it on the code side but have never been able to reproduce this. Thanks.

RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
FYI - an issue with the communicating data from the lobby system to the game has been identified and resolved. This should fix the issue of some players not being able to see each other in the lobby.
If you continue to see this issue please let me know.

RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
I also have this problem. Boycon vs Tolomeo, today 21:15 GMT+2. A lot of lag on scenario menu. 1% x minute to pass file and crash on strategic screen.
RE: Can't connect to opponent in lobby
I also had an issue.
Sometimes there would be failures to connect in the lobby.
One of the players reported that the menus seemed responsive, however the other found significant delays in updating information. The set-up screen would get out of sync (e.g. player-ready statuses would be reported differently for each user).
Finally the data transfer on loading a scenario was slow (would hang at 1% or take ten minutes to reach 19% and then crash).
Are there any solutions? Also, are there any ways to connect directly? I'd rather have a fix than have to seek a refund.
