506 PZ ABT and Merging

Post by STIENER »

ive been thinking...[ not always a good thing [8D] ]
based on the short comings of this BG....no inf or support troops......does it makes sense for this BG to merge with another larger inf BG ASAP???
what have you gamers been doing?

what happens to this BG's BG point pool, which appears to be relatively high,[ on green and lower ] when it merges??? is it lost or do these points that the 506 would get each day transfer to the now parent BG??
anyone know?

I recently had 2 101st AB battlegroups on the same map, 1 was very depleted and I had a fresh glider BG on the next map. I tried to merge the 2 AB, then I reloaded the game and disbanded the depleted BG (the book says some of the units will make it to nearby BG's). It didnt seem to make any difference either way. I'm at the point in the game now where I have enough fresh BG's to fight and I'd like to get rid of the older battle weary BG's in the best way, without losing their experienced units would be good too.

There have been other posts on this at CCS as well, I need to go back and read them again.

Anyway, hows sunny Gibson's? I stayed at Sechelt years ago when I was temporarilly working at the big mill down the road from there. Beautiful place to live.

FROM THE MANUAL
17.8 DISBANDING
Battle Groups are disbanded whenever they are forced to leave a map, and can’t retreat, either
through loss of victory locations or from morale failure. A disbanded Battle Group becomes
unavailable for the reminder of a campaign or operation. However, some teams/units from a
disbanded Battle Group may be absorbed into nearby friendly Battle Groups as long as they are
under the same parent formation.
If you have only one Battle Group remaining you may not willingly disband it.

17.12.5 MERGE
This orders two Battle Groups that occupy a single map to merge into one Battle Group. The
larger of the two Battle Groups absorbs the smaller one. If they are equal in size, the one with
the best commanding office absorbs the other. Merging Battle Groups moves all teams from
the absorbed Battle Group into the Forcepool of the absorbing Battle Group. Merging Battle
Groups may increase the number of available team/unit slots, as long as the combined Battle
Group is significantly stronger than the original ones.
The actual merge does not occur until you Execute movement orders for the strategic turn. A
merge cannot be interrupted (even if there is a hostile Battle Group present on the same map),
and occurs before any tactical battle on the map.

So - In summary it says merging BG's MAY increase the number of available unit slots, and moves ALL teams into the forcepool of the absorbing BG. I didnt see this and I need to do some more testing. I didnt write down all the units, but they were both 101 BG's so the parent fp will be the same.

To me , I didnt see any use merging other than to free up space for a fresh BG to move in. I still say the unit stacking feature is a winner, we've been asking for it since CC4. You can now hold a map with 1 BG while another moves through. Maybe I just need to get used to the quircks.

Otherwise - Short story, I lived in Port Moody BC for 7 years, 2 of them working for a control valve supplier - Fisher. I worked at Howe Sound in the summer of 1998 (ages ago) for a big shutdown in the Instrument workshop. My wife worked for BC Hydro and was based in Revelstoke for ages. I've since moved back to Australia with the family, we still miss BC, especially when we see it on TV as it shows up in adds and shows ALL the time. My 3rd son was born in New Westminster hospital so he's Canadian by birth so we still have ties. My favorite place is either Buntzen lake (Port Moody) of Tofino ( for the winter surf!) Cheers!

its a small world Pvt Grunt [;)] so ur in australia now eh...maybe we can hook up and play a few on GR. whats ur name on GR???

i think merging will benifit the germans alot. some of there bg's are amazingly small. i dont know if they get bigger as the game goes on or not .....like the 10 ss BG's....there tiny....so a merge might benifit them. the problem is we dont know what happens with the size of some german bg's until we play the GC a few times. we know the force pool is transfered as you quoted in the manual.
thats what im asking the players here about merging the 506 or any BG.......what happens to this BG's BG point pool, which appears to be relatively high, [ on green and lower ] when it merges??? is it lost or do these points that the 506 would get each day transfer to the now parent BG??
