modding names

Post by Javolenus »

Hi There,

I recently installed the VDV mod and the Spinel datamod. Both help boost OPFOR and make for a more fun game, whether playing as BLUFOR or OPFOR.

Thing is, when playing as OPFOR and deploying individual soldiers (not teams), my Russian guys all have Western names. Is there any way to mod this, so that individual soldiers have Russian names? It may be a minor point, but for the sake of 'immersion', I'd like to achieve this. Is it possible? Just to clarify: the modded OPFOR teams have Russian names, it's just individual soldiers that don't.

Also, is it possible to add/remove names from the NAMES text files in the BASE folder? Or should these files be left alone?

Many thanks for help!

I'd imagine that the Names files is exactly where you need to be looking. Try replacing all the names therein, but don't change the number of names.

Hi There and many thanks indeed for this. OK, I'll try replacing the names but not changing the overall number. Thanks again!

You can of course change the overall number, but that's part II of the lesson!

To do so you need to adjust the number in the file.

Welcome to the gentle art of tinkering!

Soon, you'll be spending more time tinkering than actually playing!
