The Real Infantry Mod/Campaign

Post by KG Erwin »

I really like this one. Yes, you get a few AFVs, but all light armor. However, I've discovered one overriding problem -- the freakin' mortars are TOO accurate and TOO powerful! I made it through the Kremlin battle, but once I started getting hit by mortar fire inside of level 2 buildings, it just seemed crazy.

At this rate, I can only imagine what the Stalingrad scenarios would be like. Something is definitely skewed here.

I'd thought that light mortars were meant to suppress, rather than kill, except at close ranges. Hell, the Germans & Russians' commanders "personal artillery" is taken far too literally. Who needs a 75mm IG or even a couple of heavy MGs when you have a couple of 50mm high-explosive launchers?

It's too much. Does anyone else agree?

Yes, the games turn into rock-throwing contests at times. The AI has as big a preference for mortars as it does for tanks. For this reason, I've removed the 50mm mortars from the next version of the Grossdeutschland Mod, and cut waaaay back on availablity of the 81/82mm mortars.
