Why would you try various IP addresses?

Just use your IP address.

Page 63 in the manual.

Get you IP you give to your opponent here:

I did.  I used the IP given from that website, as well as the IP address given in TLD multiplayer - they were different.  I'm sure it's my router screwing things up, but I'm unable to rectify the problem.

IP address given in TLD multiplayer

at a command prompt type in ipconfig /all

The Ip given there should match the IP given by tLD.

This is the address you forward your ports to.

The address on the website above is the address you give to your opponent.

They will be different and they are supposed to be different.

See my port forwarding to give you an idea

Mac,

The address CC is giving you probably starts with 192.168... This is your internal LAN IP. Just ignore it, LAN IP or Internet IP showing you can still connect if the ports are forwarded. Do not give your LAN IP to your opponent as he will never be able to connect to it. (your internal LAN IP of Hamachi IP is not some secret which you have to blur out in screenshots either, for those that do!)

Forwarded means your router is taking data sent to your Internet IP and forwarding them through your router ports you opened to your LAN IP, which enables CC to function online. When CC reports your IP as 192.168.#.# its correct. Your router will forward all the data CC needs to that IP.

Some tips for everyone...

Double check that the modem your ISP gave you isnt doubling as a router. Go to the manufacturer site and check the exact model. Some ISP will block out all the user access to the router function so it seems like its just a modem. If it turns out to be a router also, and your modem is hooked to a home router, you have a double router. Get another modem, unless you are allowed to enter the user interface and adjust port forwarding, then disconnect your home router.

For Windows firewall make sure its set to warn you when a program is trying to use a port. Windows Firewall will automatically block the ports for CC unless you allow it to work through. You do not port forward through Windows Firewall, you enter Exceptions. TLD will be listed as "Close Combat Engine Executable" and its properties should state allow anyone to connect to it.

Problem again:

I tested with a mate (behind a router), which can play with everbody except me, TLD does not work, but orginal CC5 works.

I have a static ip, and never had problems with any other mulitplayer games (Civ4, Warhammer,...) only with TLD and WaR.
I can only play with 2 guys, I do not know why it works with them, and why it not works with others.

Since weeks the problem is known and described well, but no solution.

Please have a look at this, The game had cost a lot of money and my clan is playing a GC and can not join.

thx

I can play with people who know how to set up their networks.

My son can play games on his xbox 360 with people who know how to set up their networks too.

The network connections for tLD and WaR have been tested and work correctly.

There is a community H2H GC that is ongoing for WaR people are playing fine.

So.. do all players have the latest directx installed?

Do all players have CCE.exe allowed through their fire wall(s)  both on their PC and on their router(s).. you may have more than one router as some "modems" are in fact routers.

Read your modems and routers manual.

Do you have all ports forwarded on your routers to the correct IP address for your PC?

It is good to hear that you son can play XBOX.

Many buyers do NOT can play TLD or WaR. But they can play several other games without problems.

Again:
* TLD or WaR multiplayer works sometimes.
* I can play with 2 mates
* I can not play with a mate, which can play with anybody else TLD.
* I can play with the mate the oringinal CC5
* the network is testet and works (PING)
* the ports are open and forwarded by the mates
* I have a static IP
* Firewalls down

So why can be a connection established with CC5 (Version 5.01) and not with the TLD?

Same PCs, same settings?

CC5 and TLD/WAR use different versions of DirectX (7 versus 9.0C respectively) and Microsoft changed the required ports for multiplayer when they went from version 7 to 8. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/240429

If you use triggers to open ports on your router you can join a game but not host a game (exception: if you join a game and then host the required ports might still be open).

We'll investigate whether a LOG file can be generated.

thx, this is a good idea.

And maybe a PortChecking tool also. Ping/Check each port is needed and show it in a simple window/log.

I'll ask Gamespy if they can make rooms for TLD and WaR but I think they would take the request more seriously coming from Matrix.  Maybe not we'll see!

They seem to support every close combat game except the two new ones. This would be heaven to me if something like this got set up for The Longest Day. I've tried battle HQ several times to no avail, perhaps this would work better.

War In The Pacific is a superb game. Eagerly await the new Admirals edition.

And about H2H and Battle HQ (B-HQ is a joke)

This is the second game I bought here that Multiplayer isn't working and noone really fixing the problems. If you don't take it seriously don't sell the games. You have to pressure the developers to make a patch if you get alot of people not able to connect H2H. Don't get fustrated on the buyers. If you do the buyers will not buy more games. Simple.
I am used to networks and how it works. This is the second game it's very hard to go H2H on. First game was 'Forge of Freedom' the admin said it was a minor problem only a few players got and he couldn't do anything about it. How good is that?
Got so angry I uninstalled the game.

Please fix this! Contact gamespy. Why should the gamers always be the BETA tester on released games?  [:-]

I can't see any of your posts that indicate you have a connection problem.... please elaborate.

this game has used the same connection system since 1997 or thereabouts.

the sytem works and I play  h2h regularly from a variety of locations and computers.

Most peoples problems revolve around them setting up complicated home networks and then not reading the manuals.

I'll add to that by saying it's usually a driver issue.  That's been the cause of 50% of the problems we've troubleshot.  Update drivers if you're experiencing issues.  A close second, echoing what Andrew said, is router/network/port settings.

[>:]Ok maybe my opponents didn't do what I told them. SO I can only speak for myself. I have no firewall except Norton '09 (that I disabled totally during the test.) I have latest direct x for XP. (Isn't Direct X10 not only for Windows Vista?)
I can ping my opponent and he can ping me through hamachi. We have the same patches. The new BETA patch... The thing is that we doesn't seem able to find each other.
In the Battle HQ it didn't work either and that thing looks not finnished to me either. Why do you need fix the colours to see what you write or others write????  And what about all these buttons on the left that is linked to nothing?????

Eric Babe wrote me that Forge of Freedom was a Microsoft problem with TCP/IP... It was send private just not to annoy to many of your forum readers actually. But what is this?[8|]
I will for sure delete this posts if you fix the problems or I find that I am totally lost in my head.

Cheers

Jonas
