Case Yellow - Feedback

Post by BigDuke66 »

And now my data on "Case Yellow".
First their is a "20. Infanterie-Division" in the game that shouldn't be there as the 20th ID was motorized and as reserve at HG B, so the motorized 20th attached to the XVI Korps should be moved to take the place of the normal 20th ID and that normal 20th ID should be deleted.

Directly missing at start is the "Infanterie-Regiment (mot.) 900" attached to the Panzergruppe Kleist.

As I had no problems taking down the AI even when giving it more time the concept of buying reserves(from OKH) with high pp costs seems OK, but I wonder if this would work against a human player too.
Just to throw in some numbers when comparing the OOB of 10th May with the one from 8th June:
-2 more armies
-6 more corps
-20 more divisions
-1 more brigade
And that is just the net account for the frontline, a lot of the starting divisions were rotated back to OKH reserve and many more new division came into the front line or to OKH reserve.
Of the starting divisions 12(including the 22. Luftlande Division) go into OKH reserve, the OKH reserve itself gets 7 new divisions and to the frontline come 32 new division + 1 new brigade.
Basically I would suggest to allow the buying of different infantry units, divisions from the 1st/2nd wave(in the game as normal infantry) and 3rd/4th wave(in the game as reserve infantry) infantry divisions for different pp of course and also SS divisions, also more corps and armies to keep the command structure up to the expanding number of divisions.
Up to the historical numbers buying units could be made on a much cheaper level but with a raising pp costs for every new unit, those raising costs could be lowered a bit again buy using an option to rotate units back into the reserve, in this case the combat power of the unit should be check & counted so that at certain levels of combat power in OKH reserve to PP costs will be lowered again.

What is desperately missing are recon units, there are the following squadrons at the disposal of Luftflotte 2 & 3 on 10th May:
2.(F)/122
3.(F)/122
4.(F)/122
1.(F)/121
2.(F)/123
1.(F)/123
3.(F)/123
5.(F)/122
3.(F)/121
4.(F)/121
Would be really nice to form some recon units out of them as the German player needs to know the enemies troop concentrations because the march thru the Ardennes is no surprise for a human Allied player.

Also the splitting of the units especially on this scale seem necessary as often enough the player already is above the stacking limit when using a single unit for ground bombings.

Now to the map, as the front line ran on a East to West line the map should be extended straight south from line 95 so that the German player can't push the allied troops onto this edge, also the bigger parts of the Maginot line a bit further to the east should be added to have a real anchor on the right side of the map so that even when the German players tries to push the allied troops ontp the edge he will have a more than tough time doing it.

And the AI has a real problem getting a clue of the current strategic situation as I made 3 big encirclements, one from Antwerp to Brüssel, one from Namur to Charleroi and one in the wooded area south of Sedan. All the AI did were some slow attempts to shift its troops but no real breakout attempts, for me there was no Dunkerque.
Especially the British should maybe be more aware when the Belgians drop their weapons so they can form up further back, the majority of the British units were destroyed between Antwerp and in Brüssel.

Another idea is that the amount of evacuated troops is modified by the distance to England, for example I doubt the The Hague would as good for evacuation as Dunkerque was simply because the distance was much bigger and much less troops would have made it back.
