Best way to kill Russian Armyies

The best way to destroy lots of Russian Divisions in WitE seems to be building large pockets and subsequently destroying the contents.
In DC Barbarossa this is not so easy.
Instead to WitE in DC Barbarossa killing an army`s HQ hinders the subordinate divisions in activating and by this more likely to be destroyed.
I`m not quite sure about that. Is my impression right?

Yes, you are right. In WiteE the oy way to destroy units is to shatter them (very unlikely) or encircle&surrender them. in DC:B damage from combat is higher and shattering more likely, so you can getnfurther with frontal fighting than in WitE.

There are a few things which really help in creating pockets in this game.

First, developing a good relationship with your Army Group Commanders.

Second, once you have a good relationship, use the Focus cards on your Panzer commanders. The next turn you will be able to play individual cards for the focused Panzer commanders which, for example, give you an extra 20% action points (Tactical focus card).

Third, use your infantry to create gaps in the line, preferably 2 hexes wide. A gap which is 2 hexes wide will open up a ZOC free zone which your panzers can run riot through. This applies whether you have Focus on your Panzer commanders or not.

And lastly, after you have encircled a good group of Rooskies, let you infantry come up and kill them off. Rinse, latter and repeat.

Also, don't forget, the first 5 moves of the game, the Krauts have extra bonuses to help them out. In those moves, you must kill off as many Soviets as possible. However, once again, try to let your infantry do most of the killing. Preserve your panzers as this is a long campaign.
