what does set as capital do?

what does set as capital do?

what does set as capital do? should I move my capital to a planet with really good ruins and thus unusually high development? should I put the capital at the center of the empire as it radiates a bonus that decreases with distance?
what does it actually do?

almost 300 posts and you know not what set as Capital does? exactly what it says :D nothing less now whether it radiates its luminos onto other systems is to be questioned as if you set a poor size 40 world with no resources or luxuries as a capital it wont have much to radiate especially if its developement is 60 or something. culture wont be as influential. I digress while Capital and homeworld are two different things I suspect Capital also functions as homeworld as your first world is usually know as the Capital.

I think it is safe to say that symbollically your capital might mean something, but Kamonrius has a point. I always set my starting world to excellent, because the game will then create your homeworld and capital to the best environment for your race.

As such your homeworld would be like Coruscant, except it is also the birth place of your species besides being the biggest economy and high strategic value for your empire.

In regards to game mechanics besides what I just mentioned there are no capital distance bonuses like Civ or GalCiv.

There doesnt seem to be any inherent bonuses from having a planet set as a capital. However setting something as a capital does seem to cause more trade to redirect to it tho that can simply just be due to the fact that the capital is usually the most developed planet and hence, requires the highest volume of goods. If u set the capital to a poor world maybe the trade routes wont follow or maybe if your capital is too underdeveloped, theres a higher chance to get rebellions or be susceptible to revolts. Why dont u try it out and tell us the results?

canonically, the races got dispersed from their home worlds in an ancient pan-galactic war... you are just now regaining spaceflight.

^ O_O you know never played the game enough to find that out? busy destroying things. thanks for the heads up lol. but it is still your homeworld, in a sense. your people sat there extensively for a great amount of time. with regards to what a captial may be. look above your post :D

i started in a "harsh" system recently.. I started with a desert planet... as usual in harsh I have an MSP instead of LSP, and a compliment of uselss ships.. a passenger ship doing nothing, dozens of freighters with no job, two constructors, etc...
anyways. in the SAME SYSTEM there was a continental planet with 500M humans (I was humans)... I immediately colonized it and got a planet better then my homeworld... next over there were 5 other independant human colonies and some ancient ruins...
that was the only time I didn't go bankrupt in a harsh home system... thing is... my home system was still rich and vibrant... my home PLANET was harsh and my starting economy was -12K state, -12K private, tons of useless ships, and 50k in cash.
You have to use that 50k in cash well or you go bankrupt, permanently...
