I enjoy a good FPS blast as much as the next guy, Battlefield, Modern Warfare etc etc.  But games like this are what keep me entertained for longer periods.

I'm a massive fps player, been playing Counter Strike Source for years and used to be pretty good at it, but I need a game where I can sit down and play on my own because I work shite hours. Was a massive fan of MOO + MOM + TFTD when I was early teens and never got quite hooked the same way again. Anybody else feel that the first games out were mega complex and only a few people ever played it, and now that they're dumming the games down massively, it's starting to get quite popular???

Weird eh

Money $$$$

That's all it is.

Sure, those games were pretty good but as you said, only a handful of people could get anywhere with them. If dumbing down a game makes it more accessible to people then that's what they're going to do.

The complex games are still out there. Its just their numbers havent increased, while the number and popularity of other games drastically increased.

SE5/BM was 2007/2008
thats "only" 3 years ago for example

I'm 55 and thankful I've lived long enough to see games like this one, WitE and HOI3 FTM, to name a few. These games were pipe dreams in the 1980s.

41 - finally old enough to buy whatever game I want, when I want...its just a matter of finding the time to play them (let alone mod them like when I was younger before I had kids)!

Started playing war games in 1974 with Avalon Hill's board game "Tactics II"
MasterChief and Galen, thanks for your service!
