Can you redesign Construction Ships to build faster?

Post by invaderzim »

Do extra construction yards speed up repairs or base construction for Construction Ships? This is what the Galactopedia says about construction yards:
Construction Yards allow construction of new ships and bases. They also provide facilities for repair and retrofit of existing ships and bases. Construction Yard components are typically incorporated into space ports.

As your research in Construction progresses you gain the following benefits:

· increase the maximum size of ships and bases you can build

· increase the speed at which you construct ships and bases

And here's what it says about manufacturers:
When designing a space port or construction ship you should place one manufacturer of each industry type (Energy, HighTech, Weapons) with each construction yard (i.e. 3 Manufacturers per Construction Yard).

I've tried building construction ships with two construction yards, but only one of them ever seems to get used. The speed is almost always 300 as well. So what determines construction speed?

Assuming there are enough materials and three Manufacturers per Construction Yard, can you sum it as base size divided by the construction speed (probably 300)? Or are there other variables at play, such as the time it takes for a manufacturing plant to produce certain components?

Edit: Also in my current game a small starbase has 4 yards and 1 plant of each type, a medium base has 6 yards and 2 plants and a large base has 12 yards and 3 plants? So are the AI designed bases under-equipped if you want to churn out a lot of ships quickly?

Additional construction yards don't increase the build speed, but simply allow you to build more at the same time( i.e. two ships instead of one). Far as I know, they have no effect on Construction Ships which always create just one item at a time.

Apparently, testing says you really just need one of each production plant for every 10 construction yards.

Generally, the way to increase construction speed of your constructors would be research.

Thanks, this is good to know. Do you happen to have any links to these tests? If it's true, then large star bases are actually over-equipped with 3 of each plant, while all the others only need 1.

If you look at the construction line, you will see that some of them increase construction speed in addition to (or instead of) yard size.

I would think adding more Weapons Plant, Energy Plant and HighTech Plant would increase construction speed. These things are what builds the components and seeing as how the space ports have multiples of them, they stack.

Yeah, I've been trying to figure out exactly how many manufacturing plants you really need. I just noticed in the construction research line, you start out with plants that have 20,000 capacity, but when you get to Component Prefabrication, your plants have 45,000 capacity. But it's hard to say what this means without having some hard numbers about how much capacity each component requires. I would guess certain components like Armor would be faster to manufacture than more complex items like Titan Beams, but who knows?
