Recommended victory conditions?

Post by AstroCat »

Still pretty new to the game. What some "beginnerish" VCs? I'd also like to check out the story part of the game for fun.

So I got all on default on the VC page except Victory Conditions apply after 99 years.

What should I change?

Thanks!

The worst thing as a new player is that u realize just when the game is getting good *poof* you win! Up the racial victory condition thresh-hold to 100%, and add at least 60 years till victory is what I suggest. Victory is really not what the game is about... also longer games give you opportunities for more achievements.

Well I put years till victory at 99 and left the others at 33%.

Just delete all victory conditions - play it as a sandbox and decide when You feel like a winner. Or check in Shakturi victory condition.

I have heard that leaving all conditions on gives the A.I. goals and makes them preform better.

Whoever said that was guessing. It is not the case, the AI acts the same regardless of victory conditions.

I agree with above poster, play sandbox mode, as the fun, so often, really heats up just as the 80% threshold for victory kicks in.

I prefer to have at least some goals to aim for. I leave everything turned on, 99 years til they apply, 100% threshold.
Having only the default 80% threshold means you can win really easily just by expanding your empire.
Making it 100% threshold means you have to complete all your racial conditions too, and some of them really need to be focused on if you want to succeed.

Will someone please inform me whether the Atuuk victory condition to 'do the least research in the galaxy' applies to stealing and trading techs?

Well, not that it changes AI so much, but the "Game scales as Player approaches Victory" setting should change the overall game somewhat.

If you use this setting, then you probably want to set some type of VC's.
For a Pre-Warp game I'd go at least 75 years if not the 99 years, 50 is just to quick when it takes 20 years or so just to get some footing under you.

Best victory conditions is none aka sandbox, so you can thoroughly conquer all the galaxy or quit when bored.
Do not hesitate to flee.
