Which Version and why? Your Experience

With this on a Steam sale now I am looking at picking it up, but before I pull the trigger, does this play better with or without Steam? Modding easier with or without? Updating?

I can wait for a Matrix sale if the general consensus is that it plays better outside of Steam. What are your impressions???

I have it on steam and it runs just fine along with all my other steam games but I also have games I bought off gog or origin or whoever depending on who was the cheapest.

I have a few games on Steam including a few from Matrix. I guess what I am really asking is if there are any known issues that people have had with the Steam version that are or are not with the Matrix version. This includes updating and modding. Plusses and minuses.

You will get some great enjoyment from your purchase! I'd suggest installing icemania's ai enhancement mod as it greatly improves the ai of the game both the one controlling your empires automation and the ones controlling the ai empires. Makes a great game even greater. [8D]

Thank you for the recommendation! I will run a trial/learning game with Vanilla using Tortuga Power's Beginner's Tutorial and then advance accordingly. Looking forward to the education! [:)]
