While trying the game before buying it might be complicated for 4X games, it can still be done.

Also, Matrix/Slitherine games are now regularly discounted (something that was not even thinkable a few years ago).

I think the discounts are to pull in as much money as possible since they are trying to fund a few large projects one of which is distant worlds 2 if the hints dropped by a dev post are any indication. The good thing about pc games is that once the development cost has been recovered everything past that is pure profit as digital goods are infinitely reproducible at almost zero cost.

Well yeah, frequent software discounts like on Steam are the classic
"Price segmentation to capture consumer surplus" strategy... on steroids!

When I think of the thousands of dollars I have spent on "games" over the past 30 years (& don't play anymore)...$60 is a steal if it lives up to its' billing. Actually, games were a lot more expensive back then, on average. So far, DWU has been a wonderful purchase for me. Oh, the $30 sale on Steam helped. :)

I can't play anymore because I lose all immersion as soon as I see the graphics.
Graphics are the least of the problems. This game is rigged with bugs which make the game unplayable and broken.

Looks like the game code is one, huge mess. Whenever they've fixed one, old bug in the past - half a dozen of new bugs has appeared. It was like that since the very beginning.
I mean, in the last patch they've yet again reintroduced the old bug with mining stations detaching from planets. Which was fixed 2,4 and 6 (..) patches ago.

On top of that Matrix Games is charging premium price (57,99 euro) like for AAA title, except that their product is half-baked and essentially should be considered as still being in the beta phase.. And that's after 6 years of development..
