ship maneuvers

Post by Data »

not sure if this is already on the wishlist but i for one am obviously thinking of the picard maneuver; what do you think about this?
we could have a set of both defensive and offensive preset maneuvres on the status screen for a ship or for a fleet as well - maybe a way we could design our own maneuvres...and formations for fleets also

It's a good idea. Why not post it in the suggestions thread?

Not sure about ship maneuvers but fleet formations would be a huge plus. I'd love to be able to surround carriers with a gauntlet of destroyers.

The picard manouver is exiting hyperdspace at point blank distance from the enemy. I don't think it's a good idea to allow ships to exit hyperspace closer than what it's now because that would make long range weapons useless and space ports useless (as transport ships could exit hyperspace and unload troops immediately).

Not sure about tactical maneuvering - seems a little micro-level for me in a game like DW. However, I love the idea of setting up fleet formations - protect the troop transports, fighter carriers etc.

yes, and we can employ tactical maneuvres like we employ stances (in addition to stances, a more granular automation) now and avoid micromomanaging...and do it only when we like it

I would like to see fleet formations as being described.  I would also like to be able to put a distance (or some sort of timing mechanism) between groups of ships within a fleet to allow wave attacks by a single fleet.

same for fighters.....carrier groups that send a wave of fighters while ressyplying another one
