So... did the bundle deal work out for Matrix?

Post by Texashawk »

Obviously we're not going to get exact sales figures but I'd be curious to know if at least DW-Shadows was a more successful launch than either of the first three game/expansions. Considering the 'Buy Distant Worlds Shadows Now!' link only has 318 redirects as of this posting, I'm a little concerned that things didn't go perhaps as well as hoped. Yes, I know that many people don't use that link, and many people probably purchased direct from the bundle offer on Plimus, but still... that's a low number.

I am curious because I really, really want this kind of pricing to make positive fiscal sense for Matrix. If it works, many more people end up with the game, Matrix/Eliot still make money and everyone's happy - happy enough that Matrix will consider this kind of deal in the future.

/shrugs I bought it but it kind of timed out right. I was reading on the steam forums someone referencing the game and saw the bundle so dived right in.

I bought the game up to legends during last year´s sales.
Reading about it really got me interested but I had to use the force and wait for the offer with patience. Money was not the problem...the problem is the fear of making a fool of myself and paying a high price for something that I could not be sure about. The fear of being disappointed I guess.
Bought Shadows right after launch.
I think I would have gotten this last expansion even without a promotion as the whole game is a true work of art. You can see it was made with love. It was made to create an impression and to last.
This game has serious substance and it makes you use your brain in so many different ways...something we rarely find in our modern superficial society.
Well...I am 40 after all...just the views if a bitter veteran in the trenches of life resisting against the zombie apocalypse everyday.
Good gaming to you all.

Jomarmont, yea the game really grows on you. I loved Gal Civ 2 and wanted a replacement. While this game is not visually as fancy as Gal Civ it has far more depth. I am also over 45 and picky about what games I get lately. I am thinking about Star Drive but will wait a year and see how it shapes up.

The forum buy now links are really not much use as a sales guide. I can't comment on exact sales numbers, but the Shadows release is going very well, above our expectations.

Also, the bundle deal is still ongoing until July. [8D]

I bought the whole series.

Haven't had much time to delve into it yet.

The Shakturi are extremely displeased with the bundle. Sorry, that's all I can say.

I jumped in on this release with this bundle. Glad I found the game, although there does seem to be a ton of bugs with the 1.9.0.4 release. So I've stopped playing till the next patch, which hopefully fixes the game up.

Excellent! Distant Worlds 2 here we come! :) Or maybe even other sci-fi titles from different Matrix developers? There is fertile ground....in spaaaaaace.

I also bought the game up to legends last year. Of course I did upgrade to shadows as soon as possible and I am very glad to hear release is going so well. You really deserve it and this game is a true gem.
Mostly I agree with jomarmont, except I am 24. Zombie apocalypse is not everywhere.

I was on the fence about buying DW for a while so I waited for the bundle (I expected it about a month earlier so I wandered off to play some other games for a while).

Also, I liked the fact that I could buy the original game seperately for $20 to see if I liked it. I did, so I dropped another $50 on the rest of the expansions. In some ways it's the best 4X game I've every played since Master of Orion, so no regrets. :)

Hi Meceti,
I agree with you, zombies are definitely not everywhere.
Sorry if it looked like a generalization against the younger ones.
I am a scientist, I teach and train students and worry about their future.
I try to break the apathy of our current historic age.
It always makes me happy to see younger people caring about something beautiful, be it science or an outstanding work of art as simple and complex as this game. It makes me happy when you stand up to say "Whoah, it is not everywhere".
On topic: DW rocks by the way. Best 4x ever and it does not look like this will change anytime soon.
I sincerely hope it sells tons.
Cheers everybody.

Speaking of zombies, that could be the theme of the next expansion. Space Pirates and Zombies made it work... sort of. ;)

I know as a self employed game developer(for a living but browser-based), there is no better feeling than monetary incentive. For me I love my job but getting a fat payment will get me out of bed working on developments faster than any cup of coffee ;)
