Bases rotating

Post by rankalee »

Just wondering if the bases and stations in game are meant to rotate compared to what they look like in the .png files?

And is there any way to make them not rotate? prefer to have them not upside down etc.

Yes, they always have random orientation and no there isn't a way to avoid it (unless your base is circular I suppose).

Not really anything you can do about it except use images that look okay at funny angles. bear in mind it is space and in space there is no "up".

Unfortunately, you are at the mercy of the game engine as to how it orients the bases when built.

I'm not sure if its worth trying to make the AI build them so they are always oriented to map north either. In a top down game like this, you really need to use all top down graphics, trying to make the units with Isometric views will not always produce the best results as the objects can often appear at strange angles when you look at them on the screen.

Bases in late game can also be very annoying, as they can cover the planet entirely. Disabling any Rt-Click features, as you can rarely if ever find a hole to click through...

Yep, when it comes to bases, the auto-resizing based on the component size can become a obstacle.

I thought I was just doing something wrong in my mod when resizing the .png files. Yeah it does look wierd when they rotate randomly.. Funny about the no 'up' in space Fenrisfil.. I see your point. :)

Shark7, yeah I think I will start using top-down graphics for the bases to limit the wierdness abit. It is a good idea and should of occurred to me since the rest of the sprites in game are.. *doh*

It was an ironic statement really given it's a top down game. But I guess that is why the bases look strange really as we get used to the fixed perspective of the top down style (which is great for playability but very bad for realism). Personally I like the bases at weird angles, it drops a little dose of realism back into the game world.

The size... now that's another issue. Lol.
