"Game Over" when Victory Conditions are met

Post by HelloMiko »

Hello, I am struggling to find people who are knowledgeable about the game to help me with this issue.

I am playing the fantastic DWUR mod with the only the race specific victory conditions active and set to 100% as I like to be able to view them for RP purposes.

The problem is that when a race fulfills their conditions, I get a "Victory" screen with some stats and my empire is immediately deleted from the map. All colonies, all ships... I thought there was an option to continue the game.

I am looking at the Victory Conditions in the game setup and I keep trying to find what I'm missing... I have time limit unchecked... It is frustrating to spend 2-3 hours designing ships in pre-warp to have my empire deleted after a time.

I'm sure this is probably user error but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong and as I mentioned at the top, I'm struggling to find a community for this lovely game/mod :)

What size map are you playing on? Small maps don't give you a lot of room to expand, and 1/3rd of them isn't a lot. I tend to play on the largest map possible in DWUR. My set-up is:

custom game as standard empire, 2000 stars, 15x15 grid, few pirates, irregular galaxy (more random than a spiral), human empire on the edge of the galaxy, only five or six rival empires, just race-specific victory conditions and events (no Shakuri or Shadows), victory conditions only apply after 99 years.

Games can go on for weeks with that set-up, albeit only playing a few hours a day.

I was playing on 1400 stars with what I think was a 15x15 grid... or maybe 10x10... with 19 other empires.

I am not that bothered if I win or not, I just like to view my progress from time to time which is why I put that victory condition on.

...but I thought we was allowed to continue after a race achieved victory. In my game, I get the screen where a race has won, then all my ships, planets and bases are immediately deleted... is this normal?

I suppose I could uncheck all victory conditions so my game doesn't end but as I said, I like to look at the stats from time to time.

I'm sorry, I have no idea on that as it's never happened to me. Maybe a more knowledgeable player can help, but as this board is like tumbleweeds most of the time it might be a long wait for the answer!

No worries, thank you for your reply.

It really does feel like wandering in the wilderness trying to find experts on this dusty old gem of a game
