1.9.5.2 Sound issues stopping the game

Post by Jrandom »

So I am trying to be quiet while playing Universe. I turn off all of the effects and the music. This DOES NOT stop the sound coming out of the interface of the game. So I get the idea to disable the audio on my laptop. Now the game will not complete the start up from the launcher. It will go through all of the load-up, but instead of launching, the game quietly quits.

This was a recreatable bug. Three times I tried to launch. Three times it failed. I then enabled my audio, and the game will launch as normal.

gonna piggy back here - interface sounds are not linked to the sound effect slider. I can make the game effects and music very low, but the selection sounds from mouse clicking are still full volume

also

each time i start the game the music plays at normal volume, even though the music slider is set to 0. I have to go into options and fiddle with the music volume slider for the music to respect the volume setting.

on one hand I am thrilled with the depth and possibility this game has, on the other I am horrified that this game engine has been developed since 2010.

It isn't unreasonable to have the only audio controls in the game to function properly.

Well that may be true. I put this to the test to see if i could recreate this. And the game runs as it normally would with my audio disabled. This may not be directly related to the game.

Also, headsets are cheap. BUUUUT, another suggestion is to simply turn your laptops audio volume down to zero rather than disabling it.

I do confirm the music issue. The music only plays for a second though.

Thanks, that is a great idea.

This has been an issue since the original release, and is an often mentioned issue

As I'm usually listening to my own music, it's very annoying, that despite having the game's audio off, certain music still plays (and loudly at that)

With the UI click audio, there is a file somewhere in the modding forum that replaces the current file with a much quieter one (I believe there is a file for a muted one also)
