Nice. Take your time. I was hoping it wasn't dead.

But...if you are done, I'd like a savegame file. I'd like to check your game out. See if I could do as good as you did.

If not no biggie. I'd have to find room to reinstall anyways.

Mea Culpa

Post by Twigster »

And now for the rest of the story:

In the beginning there was the Crash. I had played out the war to retake the remaining Imperial planets the Naxx had taken previously (successfully, btw) when, during the Save attempt, the unthinkable happened. That one event alone would have been enough to make the most die hard gamer throw their laptop out the window. OK, perhaps not, but you all follow. Anyway, After a bit of time off ( for the disgust to wear off), I loaded again only to begin the war again when I noticed that performance was really not up to snuff. Interspersed throughout all of this are various periods of me slacking (i.e., me playing other games to let off steam.)That began a process of narrowing down what the cause was: was it a virus? Malware/adware? At a save file of over 128MB, was my 6 year old Lenovo Thinkpad T510 (that I used when was working at IBM) warhorse telling me that it needed more (gasp!) memory?? In retrospect, this investigation was entirely a good thing as in the process I performed all kinds of maintenance on my machine that had not been done in...a while... The happy ending was that I discovered that it was my profile that was corrupting and that, dear friends, was that. Necro, my laptop's computer name, is back in the pink. And so is the game, and this AAR [:D]

Hello all, I am back! [8D]

What I meant by that, Retreat, was that the Windows profile in question was corrupted. Fixed now.

I am back after an extended experience with Aurora 4X.... WOW! [:D]

Good to see you. I've been playing other games too. Mostly older games (on a budget). Having fun with Forged Alliance now that my PC can run it very well.

Thanks for the welcome back. To be honest, this AAR has become so large and complex from a role-playing standpoint that I felt I had to take some time way. It is not abandoned, but on further analysis I have found that the Empire requires far more tweaking to keep it competitive than desire to simply 'play through' will permit. In other words, I am having to make more adjustments than expected and I am no longer powering through it as initially was. That to explain the massive slow- down. [;)]

I understand. Quit of you want to quit, it's ok. The game can get too unwieldy, and that's why sometimes I enjoy small maps.
