Modders: I'm Looking to Team Up

Hi all!

We don't know what the new modding capabilities are yet for the new expansion. I'm hoping we get much more power and can change a lot more than what we are currently able to.

A long while ago I started working on a mod called The Andromeda Project. It is completely of my own imagination, a new setting not taken from any book, TV show, film, game etc.

One of the main problems at the time was due to modding limitations the setting wouldn't make sense in the Distant Worlds game, because some of the races were literally monsters that wouldn't live side by side peacefully with other races, but it looks as if in the new expansion there are options for exterminating populations etc after capturing a planet, so perhaps it is now more viable.

Looking for anyone who would be interested in working on this with me, I do art: ships, portraits, written background so I am looking for anyone interested in doing all the rest including making the races personalities (from an AI point of view), tech trees (if this is possible), flags, weapons (if possible), characters (if possible), making it reasonably balanced, fun to play and everything else that needs doing to make a great mod [8D]

Anyone interested, discuss here, it doesn't have to be 1 person I'm happy for anyone who is interested to take a part.

I will be making ships from scratch, not using exisiting DW art, I have practiced this and can get them looking as nice as my Diverse Worlds stuff (just about). If there is some interest I will post samples soon.

Don't be scared by a lot of work, this will be a slow process, I'm certainly in no rush and would rather have fun with it and a good end product than rush it, also I have to finish Diverse Worlds first of course. [:)]

Hey, WoodMan, buddy, I'll help out where I can. Unfortunately I've got my own swamp of work with all these Star Trek mods. It's gonna be alot of work to get those up to date. I've still got the Picard and Riker eras to do! If I'm honest, I'm really worried that I won't have time for it all!

I really am a fan of your Andromeda project. It sounds epic and well thought out.

We'll sort things out when the time comes.

Once we know what modding is capable in the new version we will have a better idea of what will be possible. I was hoping you would help out as you are a very experienced modder!

Sounds interesting for sure! Keeping my eye on this. Too bad I can't help in any practical way.
Hopefully you still finish your Diverse Worlds ships at some point, Woodman.

Just to re-iterate though guys, my ST mods take priority for me. We still have no idea how much work making one full mod will be and I don't think any of us can say for sure how much time we'll have on our hands over the next 6 months to 1 year.

I'm more than happy to dig in to the races and biases text files for you. I'll use any background you write to base the AI 'personalities' on.

Modding will be something I will look at a lot during beta and I hope to do lots of things with the BSG mod and the combined mod I use to really add some more flavour to them mods.
Apart from that, helping you out on the races, AI and biases parts should be relatively easy.

If you need help when we get closer to the time I shall I ask you for some info so I can create what you need (race names, characteristics, special tech etc.). I expect there to be enough changes to the races file during Legends that will break anything that is current for ROTS so it wont be worth me beginning work yet.

I might be able to help with some stuff, but can't commit to anything. I got way too much going on in real life to devote more than free time to anything.

It's nice to see so many interested, I guess we have to wait now to see what is possible.  I've always been bad at the text file type things [:@] but a lot of others enjoy fiddling around with that kind of stuff, thankfully [&o]

As for free-time issues, I know where you're coming from [:D]

I imagine over 20 races it would be wise to make in small installments of 4 races each time.

Well Igard, you know I assisted you before with the Star Trek mods and I throw my 'stretched
face' into the ring to aid you again my Romulan friend. As a beta tester, it gives one a better
working of the internals which aids in the mod development/redevelopment time. I love working
with Narns (Woodman) as well. Remember, we were a 'scary' team before!

I am pretty good with some of the files and their parameters... and I can cut and trim around stuff you find on the Internet if that helps...
