The most accurate game on the English Civil War has been just released!

Post by Daniele »

The new turn-based grand strategy game developed by Ageod and published by Matrix Games aims to recreate this bitter and decisive war with historical precision. With a detailed selection of the historical units of the conflict you will find the Covenanters, Newcastle’s whitecoats, Cromwell’s Ironside’s, the New Model Army or the Cornish legendary infantry.

Players can build and manage their armies, throughout the campaigns set in the various theaters of operations like Yorkshire, Cheshire, Lancashire, Bristol, Lincolnshire, and more. The game includes an innovative card system that lets you trigger general "war" events such as the Commission of Array, Recruitment, Break Blockade.

More Historical Events are triggered throughout the game giving the player crucial decision points. These cover anything from the seize of a city, The arrival of the Queen to Covenanters intervention.

Re the Thread title - Perhaps this is because it's the only such game...

There's Pike, & Shot. Also published by Matrix.

In fact having both is a nice combination with ECW being strategic; Pike and Shot tactical, but with a campaign feature linking battles.

There is also mod for Total War Medieval II. A good one but older.

"For King or Country: The English Civil War" (not for Kingdoms).

There is no such thing as a historically accurate strategy game. Every game stops being historically accurate from the very first move player do. First unit that moves ahistorically, first battle with non-historical results, mean we ride in unknown.

It's a good game but it's impossible to build up large armies off the cuff as they cost so much.
Also sieges tend to be very long and tedious as it's often impossible to winkle defending troops out from behind their castle walls. And attacking troops were loath to use their siege artillery.
Which.... is what actually happened...
