Screenshots - Old vs New

Based on Slitherine’s popular tabletop wargaming system by the same name, Field of Glory now comes to the PC in a faithful adaptation of this acclaimed miniatures wargame! Without the calculations and measurements required for a tabletop game of Field of Glory, the PC version accurately represents Ancient and Medieval combat where you make the important and fun decisions on the battlefield. This forum also supports the Rise of Rome, Storm of Arrows and Immortal Fire expansions to Field of Glory.

Yep the old graphics look better than the new.

Look at the icons (bows, hand etc.), the flags and the units themselves all sharper and less pixelated in the old version, and there is also the unit and terrain graphics in the UI.

That might be from the zooming. I might not have been using the same zoom value, as you control it with the wheel mouse.

I also think the old graphics look much better. Crisper, more clear, easier to read. I have used maximum zoom levels on the new graphics, and the old still look much better.

It seems clear that the big new patch has made the game look much worse visually.

FoG graphics was all but thrilling, after many years of re-developing I would have expected a little improvement at least... well I was wrong [:D][8|]

I think I could hold off until the next patch if they retained the inclusion of the view of the figurines in the main game and in the DAG screen. Like it is a pleasure to mouse over a unit as I am making an army and say "Woah! the Hussite Battle Wagon is so cool I am gonna make a whole army filled with it!". It is one of the pleasures of making an army and seeing that the figures look badass.

The scenario selection screen is missing the number of battlegroups, e.g. High (82 battlegroups) that the original version has.

Also - the scenario selection screen is missing the graphical representation of the battle setup, showing the green and red dots for where the armies are initially placed.

Why would these things be removed? Does the developer plan to put them back in very soon?

+1

We may need to look at this one as a Beta that will evolve based on feedback.

It appears so, but they are not marketing it as a beta. Which is very misleading and unfortunate. You should read the very long thread over at the Slitherine forums where all the problems with this new version are being discussed.

Add my vote to dissatisfaction with the graphics. The process screens in the old version are vastly better and what is the excuse for the figure graphics? Seriously, the look like coloured playdough with toothpicks. And some of them are just wrong, ie figures with spears where the data says swords.

The old version of the game looks so much better that I uninstalled the new version, which is a shame, because I have been waiting for Wolves from the Sea for years! [&:]

I just purchased FoG I like the gameplay but it does look really poor. The models are just bad. Will this be fixed?

I went over to the Slitherine site but not clear the status of this "new" game. Was thinking of getting while on sale but not sure now is the right time.
