Detecting minefields & obstacle belts

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Detecting minefields & obstacle belts

Post by MOS96B2P »

What is the best way to detect enemy minefields and obstacle belts? I generally find them when a unit enters a hexagon and takes casualties / must stop to clear. If I understand the manual I think this might be the only way to find them? However, I just had a recon unit enter a hexagon and discover a minefield without taking casualties. Does the type of unit matter as far as detection or casualties? Or if the unit is mounted or dismounted?

Recon units can spot mines and obstacles in an adjacent hex. The logic/settings in the new game for mines and obstacles are deeper and give you, as the commander, more options.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!
