Marines using Red Storm (modded) to teach and train

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Marines using Red Storm (modded) to teach and train

Post by CapnDarwin »

The US Marine Corp has modified Red Storm for use in staff training exercises similar to what we do at the Origins Game Fair every June. Cool to see the professionals using the game for training.

Read a bit of what they are doing here: https://paxsims.wordpress.com/2018/04/3 ... niversity/

Good day,

That was really interesting. As an instructor at the Canadian Artillery School, I used war games to illustrate battle to my students.

I would have loved having this game to use...

All the best,
Mike

CapnDarwin, hi,

Deserved kudos.. [:)]
Is a very fine game and core engine. Looking forward to many a fun setting in future once to have the engine tweaked to the maturity you’re after.
All the best,
Kip.

James Sterrett is still using FCRS for staff wargaming exercises at Leavenworth, yes? And at Origins too. It's a good wargame for team exercises.

ETF, no Co-op out of the gate. We are looking at some ways to work an open player format that would work with our asynchronous orders system. We want to get to a point where players can play against each other and also play on the same side as a different country or as an assigned leader of a portion of a single force. Really any combination of roles, sides and forces. That is going to take some heavy work and time to do and that is why we will look after the release of the new Cold Wars engine with Southern Storm. Like we did with Red Storm we plan to support the new Cold wars engine with fixes, tweaks and new features. What you ask is a very big target on our radar. [8D]

If you are asking about Southern Storm, we are working like crazy on feature coding and testing, data work, more feature work and coding and testing, and other items. If you are asking about the Marines, hopefully they are still finding the game useful for training efforts. We have not heard much lately, but we keep our eye out for the game being used in the professional realm.

Good to see you here as well. [8D]
