Flashpoint Campaigns a good pick for the Christmas Sale?

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Flashpoint Campaigns a good pick for the Christmas Sale?

Post by IdahoNYer »

Considering getting Flashpoint Campaigns during the Matrix Christmas sale. Always had it on my radar, but never got it.

Or should I hold off and wait for Southern Storm?

Depends. Still a handful of months away on Southern Storm. Red Storm and Germany Reforged DLC are on sale (71% and 50% off respectively) and you can play them and get familiar with some of the mechanics and game flow. Other option is to wait it out and hit something else. Your call. We'll be here either way. [8D]
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

Thanks CapnDarwin. I've heard/read quite a few positive comments on this system.

What are the scenario in the DLC? Is it worth the addition, or will the base version keep me busy enough?

Germany Reforged is a reworking of the original Flashpoint Germany (FPG) scenarios and maps (FPG done many, many years ago) to meet the game engine standards for Red Storm. There are all the old scenarios and a bunch of alternates you can play through. The base game should keep you busy for a while and you can always gram the Germany Reforged DLC later if you want more to play. [8D]

Considering there is a nice discount, if you enjoy this period you'll want to take advantage of it! It will keep you busy for sometime!

If you pop for it, check for the 1km grid maps William worked up a very nice replacement! IIRC, they're in the download section.

Thanks all - might be worth checking out.

Where can I find a complete scenario list, both for the base game and the DLC? Curious if there are any US 3AD scenarios from when I served in Germany with the division.

No, it is turn-based WEGO with an asynchronous turn structure that models the OODA loop.
Multiplayer: traditional PBEM and Internet PBEM++.

I would think that you'll find plenty of 3rd AD scenarios in the game since I served with them in the Fulda Gap as well. Many of the scenarios that come with the PCRS: Players Edition were created by me so use that as a guide.
