I was never able to get a copy of the original version of this game despite hunting high and low for it. Please can you tell me how electronic warfare handled:

-Does Bomber Command get targeting aids such as oboe?
-Does bomber accuracy increase later in the war due to H2S /H2X? (This would affect both RAF Bomber Command at night and USAAF bombing through cloud)
-Is the struggle between evolving radars and jammers included?

Yes, there is Oboe and GEE, H2S and H2X

there is Elint and Windows, the Axis have a number of Air to Air radars and so do the Allies, there are counter Radars and Jammers

and there is the ground to ar radar net

speaking of which. what was the point of the early ELINT planes (game wise). WHat benefit do they provide. I mean they cant jam so whats the point?

they do what they did in real life, they scout and hunt out info on the GE radar systems

which the more they learn, the faster the Allied Radar upgrades come along

Will it be possible to catch and kill these ELINT planes for the Axis side in the renewed version ?
At least with the latest patches and JCL OOB they seem to be out of range (I tried to catch it with all available NF models in 1943 with at least 10 to 30 planes per night and identified ELINT plane. The only kill I had seen was a FlaK hit with a crash landing.

you should be able to kill them easy, to be honest, nothing in the stats to make them anything uber

I think you may be seeing Windows at work, early war, windows will keep breaking radar lock

the Mossie RCM may be HARD to catch and hit, but the Welly, should be a easy kill if it gets caught

I am not sure if there is anything HARD coded to make them anything other then what they are

(LOL I know they do not do well during the day, a friend I worked with wanted to try the game and didn't know a Lanc from a Spit, clicked on Sweep and seen Wellies, so he sent all of them out, none of them made it home)

(to be honest, the Wellies should be off center and out of the way, either that, or right in the middle of the mass, put them in harms way and they should get hurt)

if they are HARD to kill, it may be HARD coded

the plane type may had it own combat code

they are Rare, and HARD to build (and that is HARD coded)

hmmm this may be part of the hassle

this shot shows 6 planes, the GE sees 12 goups of 28 planes

and with Windows in effect, the GE had trouble keeping a lock on the target

which is interesting, as they got a lock on planes that were not there

so, overall, I think that they can be shot down, but it is going to be HARD to do

Just to be picky...

The chaff used was called "Window" as opposed to the "windows" name used here. It is possible to use Windows of the MS type to jam modern computers but I think it wasn't ready for WW2. [:D]

I think you are basicly wrong

the device was called window

useing the device can be called anything

Martin Middlebrooks in "the Battle of Hamburgs" show it as Windowing

Don't confuse ELINT with RCM.

ELINT = Electronic Intelligence - this is the gathering of enemy signal parameters such as frequency of operation of a certain radar so that counter measures can be developed.

RCM = Radio Counter Measures - this is the employment of devices to counter the enemy's use of electronic systems. ie Window, Mandrel, Piperack
