Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

but got to say, I have always enjoyed this game

(hey, i get to have to a break every now and then too)

but the idea of these guys running around trying to save the people of the world, by burning and blowing everything down, I always get a kick out of

even odder, the AI was pretty dang good back then, I was losing and the Nations were about to can me, everybody had cut there funds, S Africa had went to the Allens, I knocked down a samll UFO, took back a base in S Africa, then a few more small UFOs and knocked out another base in Canada, and now everyone loves me (funding is still about 1 million down and my bases are costing over 6.5, but I got alot of dead bodies to sell)

still got to be one of the best games of it's type

that is XCOM UFO defender

the game that Matrix has, with the patches and mods is pretty good, but still is not XCOM (it has alot of the little stuff, XCOM missed or couldn't do back then, but does not have the same feel)

the crew

last mission was pretty wild, David H got took over by the UFOer, shot Erik in the back, Gil fired his stunner and dropped David H and Ericbabe, then the UFOers got Marc, and he shot Erik in the back again

HARD Sarge and Shaggy, and then Helga all went bezerk, the first two were away from everybody, so no harm, but Helga was still inside the landing craft, but missed the two troopers (Swift and DBS) who were standing at her side

Rhonda and Easter lit up the country side with flames (but most of the bad guys don't take much damage from fire, but it is fun and makes light)

Harley rushed though the flames and then missed with his rapid fire, he ducked and HARD Sarge put down enough fire to make the bad guy back up, Harley then finished him with a 3 round burst to the chest

makes it very Ruff, when you have to keep your troops out of sight of each other, in case they get hit with Mind Control, but they have to be close enough to support each other

it was a great battle, had me cussing up a storm

Ah, do not know which feeling I had the most when I saw this post. Nostalgia or laughter.
The names of your squad made me laugh, but then I also had an urge to play this game again. Too bad it will randomly CTD on my PC [:(]
But I agree, this game was really good when it was published. Good AI, good story and alot of stuff to research. Must have spent 100s of hours on this and the sequal. #3 and out was never that good IMO.

I think I may be one of the few that liked 3, they were trying to make it real time, which screwed up the feel for the game

I got this one at gamergate, as a bundle, it is set up to start with it's own dosbox, so far it been running great (outdated and mouse don't want to click where you want to click, clicking on buttons you got to be just right) but game play is great

which to be honest, it is a heck of a bundle, 1-2-3, the silly flight sim game and even the first person shooter (didn't even know it was released, I thought they killed it off) plus a bonus

for 7-8 bucks, not a bad deal :)

(the bonus is worth much more, by itself)

I keep getting ladies for my recuits, Easter and Rhonda are the only two Ladies from here that I have any contact with, so that is why not all of the names have been changed

still, got a kick out of Marc shooting his two buddies in the back all the time

I liked all 3 XCOMs but in 3, where you have to fire the missle at the sun to destroy it to win, I never could get the missle to lock on to target it so never finished the game. [&:] I've always liked this kind of game (not into the first person Doom types) like SAW (Soldiers At War)& the other similar put out by Mattel or Hasbro (forget name offhand but something like Squad Leader) that was said to basically be a SAW2.
Another game I wish would be redone/updated is BARIS (Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space). I found a free shareware for pc or mac done by one of the programmers & have downloaded it again & installed it & it runs fine other than the "die rolls" are still high causing so many failures & deaths you can barely get to the moon before 71. This might be a timley rerelease/redo due to the fact of the reinterest in going back to the moon.

Have you played X-Com Terror from the Deep Sarge????[:D] I really liked it as well as UFO:Enemy Unknown as it was called in Europe... One of the best games ever[:D]
I really hated those critters that turned your men into Zombies... they were fast as hell and armored like a tank[:D] Also those floting tanks accompanying sectoids were pesky becouse you
had to watch where you shoot at them becouse those fellows tended to blow sky high when shoot down[:D]

yes, I have played them all from way back when

I have won the first two a couple of times, never did win the 3rd one, think my computer broke down, and when I got the newer one, the game wouldn't run correctly any more (this one comes with a dosbox installed, so it looks to work correctly now)

and yes, hated those buggers, in Terror, you had the Lobstermen who were armored like tanks, in 3, they had those brain huggers that they could shoot

and yes, I think that group (1 and 2 at least) were about the best of there type (in 3, really loved the fights in the factories and stuff, where you could bring down half the building, I tend to do alot of recon by fire, would end up killing two or three bad guys with out even planning on it, when something would fall)

Oh man, does that bring back some memories.

You're right...one of the best games of its type.  That's from back when game designers invested some serious time in balancing reasonable flexible play and a directed storyline.  I don't see a whole lot of that anymore.

Now I've got to install it and play a game.  It'll kill some time while I'm waiting for that mythical release of some air-based wargame that's rumored to be in development...

Hey, I love those kinds of games, if you find out any news about when it is going to be released, let me know, so I can pick it up
