German Campaign 43 - defending Italy

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

German Campaign 43 - defending Italy

Post by vimconfused »

Having problems in Italy in the sense that I could not seem to concentrate enough aircraft to make much difference, particularly after Italian surrender. Began moving the better groups back to Germany to boost defences there, but finding that its almost no point having left any behind as my interceptions don't do much and the airfields are getting strafed quite often. Therefore contemplating removing all aircraft from Italy. How do other people handle this?

you kind of stuck between a rock and a HARD place

your outnumbered, and the front line is most times pretty close, so, the enemy can be on top of you, before you got much time to react, I think most people, just pull out, but, there are important targets in Italy, and of course, to the East is the Oil fields, and to the NorthEast is Vinnia

so you can't just pull everything back and settle in the Reich for defence

would be interesting to get some other peoples ideas

Pulled all units out for R&R .When units back to full strength and morale raised moed back to northern airfields just over the border wiyh Italian forces coming back on stream.Im annow in Feb 44 Allied losses over 10,000 German losses 2,700.In this game i changed tactics sending up in units of 4 instead of squadron strength and saw my losses drop.

Amazing kill ratio.
I think with these kind of losses there should be some impact on the bomber group sizes..

Casualties and losses
RAF: 131 Bombers , USAAF: 247 bombers and 28 fighters lost
General Henry H. Arnold said after the mission:

" The loss of 60 American bombers in the Schweinfurt raid was incidental."

Not so far.Hit bomber command hard over two nights e.g 147 downed one night. It disappeared for 3 weeks just returned did not try to penetrate too far only 2 downed so it has some affect. No stopping the americans despite 1200 fotresses down.In a previouo game had units turn back but not in this game had a lot of success against gamaged fortresses struggling home, look for groups whose speed has dropped

thats about 170 planes / week
every week.

and that would be 25 A/C lost per day.........with an average 2500 sorties per day flown in this game....1% loss rate.....lower than RL!!!!!

most games see much more missons than there were done in the RL, therefore the losses are higher.

one issue with losses

most times you really see losses, it is one command, giving out the details, (if you follow the BoB, all of the news reports were about FC, and they would laff about how badly the LW was overclaiming, but, they were not reporting what BC lost, what CC lost, what TC (training command)lost)

so take it down the road, you got BC, 2nd Tac, FC and CC all running missions, not counting what the Yanks were doing, or what was going on in the MED

and in the MED, you rarely hear about the losses of 12th and 15th at the same time, or what the CW forces were doing
