Pilot losses on sweeps test

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Pilot losses on sweeps test

Post by Hard Sarge »

Hi
ran some tests to see how many pilots are being lost

now we need to see what the losses are in the air for the same basic number of losses

over all set up a base to be the target, the base had a Stab, a Gruppen and a Staffel
so 54 planes total

plotted a sweep with 48 $7's with a excourt of 48 47's, which means 96 planes will attack the base

AA has been stripped

ran test 5 times (10 is the normal, but things were pretty close each run, so stopped)

will show 1st FG results, then 2nd FG results, then total

1st run
16 killed, 22 damaged, 3 KIA, 17 WIA
13 killed, 6 damaged, 1 KIA, 0 WIA
(29-28-4-17)
2nd run
17 killed, 16 damaged, 7 KIa, 8 WIA
11 killed, 3 damaged, 0 KIA, 0 WIA
(28-19-7-8)
3rd run
19 killed, 17 damaged, 4 KIA, 13 WIA
8 killed, 3 damaged, 0 KIA, 1 WIA
(27-20-4-14)
4th run
16 killed, 23 damaged, 8 KIA, 16 WIA
17 killed, 11 damaged, 0 KIA, 0 WIA
(33-34-8-16)
5th run
17 killed, 14 damaged, 5 KIA, 13 WIA
13 killed, 7 damaged, 0 KIA, 1 WIA
(30-21-5-14)

so, over all, would say, that one, losses to pilots on the ground are not as bad as they are to losses in the air, greater chance to be WIA then KIA

hassle now, is the SAS bug and how many more that will add in

the good point I think these show is how the 2nd or follow sweeps, the pilots do seem to be getting out of the planes, 2nd sweep did very small damage to pilots

so, for test or debate, we may want to take away the results of the 2nd sweep, as that almost doubled the damage done, with out doing damage to the pilots

so we are getting numbers of
total 147 Killed, 122 damaged, 28 KIA and 69 WIA
ave of
29 Killed, 24 damaged, 6 KIA and 14 WIA

or only counting the first sweep
85 Killed, 92 damaged, 27 KIA and 67 WIA
ave of
17 Killed, 18 damaged, 5 KIA and 13 WIA

******************************************
in my current game, I am getting close to 2/3 of my Total GE losses as KIA, with 1/3 being WIA
IE GE has lost 6778 planes, Pilot losses are 4301 KIA and 2181 WIA (with 141 MIA, most of those are SAS)

It's nice that the ratio of WiA/KiA is actually increased when on the ground.

Every other plane hit in you tests had a pilot casualty ( how many of these 54 were ready A/C with a pilot in, by the way ? ).

Shame is the game seems to assume that the pilot would always be in the plane.

In real life, if these units were caught totally napping, then the pilots may not necessarily be in the planes themselves.

In between scrambles, wouldn't the pilots be out of them while the fitters re-armed and fueled them ? The UK blast pens had shelters in them for this kind of bolt-hole emergency.

Depending on the randomness of the start, should be 4-36 and 9 ready (stab tends to bounce around more then the Staffel

True and I agree about the pilots would not always be in the cockpit, but the game system see's them that is way

(as always, or mostly always, I am willing to talk to JC to see if there is someway to have the game see the pilots as being out of the planes while on the ground (it does seem to do something when they are under attack, let me try another test run)

okay this is odd and not sure how we should figure it

another raid that comes in a hour later, does not find pilots in the planes

(there are still planes able to fly)

so, would think the game does know/can pull the pilots from the planes while they are on the ground

so, all we got to do, is find out how and why, and then figure what we think it should be (and see if it works)

Debates ? Pro/Con ?????
