Thoughts on BTR 1.06.52

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Thoughts on BTR 1.06.52

Started a new BTR long campaign with this version.

6 turns in the Allied forces had bombed non-existing air bases twice.

Moonlight seems to help the bombers to much. This night the entire night raid flew in 14% moonlight. The fighters I send up had abysmal effect. So after a while I started counting how many times the bombers detected my fighters, and so on.

After I begun counting I got:
32 bombers detect fighter and takes evasive action.
3 fighter detect bomber.
1 fighter attack bomber. (bomber destroyed)

I also got a couple of Allied fighters getting radar detection, and a couple of visual spottings. No attacks though.

The entire bomber raid lost two bombers. One of them when they landed...

Hi Orm, just to be clear, this is the Allied AI selecting the ghost bases?

I have a small issue: When setting a bombing raid using "fighter Attack:on" only FB show up in the fighter list. I do have a save file if you want it

It may be that the range to target is beyond any attack fighter range so none are listed. Try another closer target or change your formup airbase and see if that helps.

Yes. I am playing vs the Allied AI.

A went back in my save list to find a save where such a base where listed as a target. See picture. Here the Allies bombed Castel Volturno #2. And such an airfield I failed to find as an Axis base.

PS. Any chance that the powers is charge can increase the file size that can be uploaded to this sub-forum? 200kB is really small.

Just had the Allied AI bomb 'road junction' in Italy. Feels like a bug.

Nope, not a bug. It is a target of opportunity. It doesn't happen very often, but it is real.

Ok. [:)]

Didn't say target of opportunity though.

Just had a bunch of B-17s bomb a target of opportunity that I found funny. My heavy AA-train.

No, I don't think these RJ's should not be targeted even for opportunity targets. I think I fixed the ghost AF targeting bug, I'll look into this one.

Had a British bomber during a night raid doing what suspiciously looked like the 'turn-back bug'. Took a picture, but should have zoomed in so it showed more clearly. Flew back towards Germany for quite some time before it turned back towards England again.

A bit annoying that the file size here is 200 kB, but in the sub-forums the file size is 2000 kB.

Suppose it is to teach me where to post, and where not to post. [:D]

Question: When the moon is up, and is listed with a number. Shouldn't that number correspond with how light it is (Since the moon is up)?

In the picture below the moon rose at 3 AM, and it is 26 minutes past 3. The moon strength is shown as 06. Yet it is pitch black (0% light).

Did this moonlight issue resolve itself? It's a simple daylight+moonlight equation in the code so I'm not sure yet what is happening here.

Is that the 1944 scenario BTR version 1.06.52?

I did some fixes with ranges and related minor issues - it's working in my current beta version 1.06.56 and there are lots of fighters showing up.

1.06.56 is in the pipeline now to be released, hopefully sometime in March.

Yes.

Or rather, I haven't seen the moonlight missing again. But I think the bug remains. I recall seeing it at least once before in an older game. But both times I've seen it the moonlight was very weak. So it might have been on the exact same date (in the game).
