BoB - Airfields

Post by BigDuke66 »

Hi

Question to those with BoB experience. From the points perspective only primary AFs give AS points when damaged, so how far does it make sense to go for the secondary AFs?

BTW some names of airfields have a * behind it, does this stand for anything?

The * means they are Bomber Command or Coastal Command AB's and therefore are not worth any AS to the Germans if they are bombed.

Some would say this needs to be kept secret, but all a player would need to do is play the RAF to see which one is which and make a note of it. I figured why bother making the player go through those hoops.

I've only just started playing this game but on the airfields question....

During the actual B.o.B, 11.Group fighter squadrons would transfer/re-locate to a temporary field if their base became too badly damaged to operate from. Local, civilian flying clubs, sports fields or any similar area of land capable of getting fighters on and off the ground as an emergency measure.. Is this reflected in the game in any way, either by actually moving location or some formula built into the game?.. I'm about to start planning for day 4 of a 1 week game (Getting a feel for it) and on day 3 I hit Biggin Hill, causing 72% damage. Is this going to effect how Fighter Command now operates from Biggin?

Really enjoying it so far. [:)]

Airfields have 3 areas of damage-runway, service and communications and damage in my experience is allocated proportionally in that sequence.
Repairs are quickest on the runway, less so on the other 2.
Your 72% could very well be 49/18/5 meaning that tomorrow, the comms will be repaired and the service will be about 14 points and the runway fully operational. Service damage is the key here. Above 24% and the repair rate will slow with above 50% really meaning a change of field for the units based there. Service repairs at about 6 points a day.
All this is from my experience as the Axis in the BTR scenarios.
